Couples continue to suffer in silence due to cases of infertility. With stigmatisation taking lead.  Most recent to faith and use of traditional medicine. This is a major set back to the achievement of treatment for infertility.  I spoke to the chair of Maragoli cultural elders Mr Avodonye Isagi who explained what happened to someone who was unable to sire children. They were buried on the fence and a thorn pierced on the buttocks before being buried.
But with technology treatment is available nowdays ranging from IVF, Surrogacy and adoption etc as Dr. Koigi Kamau explains.
Mr Mark- not his name adopted two girls from a rescue center because his wife's fallopian tubes were blocked and now if/when he dies he will not undergo this kind of stigma. In as much as there were undertones at the time they adopted the children.
This is a piece that emphasizes on stigma that people go through due infertility up until in death. Therefore ,if all other forms treatment for infertility fail, adoption remains an option.

Unveiling the Stigma of Infertility: Embracing Hope and Alternatives.

 Imagine going into labor and you are taken to hospital but No there is no help no help forthcoming because everyone has to experience and see for themselves- you see to believe.
She endured the pain and the stigma during labor. She was already tired by the time she was giving birth.

Riziki an intersex person, abandoned by the mother because of her condition so that she can continue with marriage life. She choose her marriage over her daughter. She blatantly refused to meet her after years in her father's home but chose to meet her at her aunt's home. Riziki had to drop out of school in class three because of stigma. Had a share of ridicule and stigma in school from her mates whenever they went swimming/while playing and during dating. She could not sustain any relationship when a man realized she had an ambiguous genitalia.

She got into a relationship with a man; had a come we stay arrangement only to abandon her after she put to bed. She is now a single mother. Intersex persons have rights and children have a right to education but how many children out there have had to drop out of school because of being intersex? These people are as bright and capable as the would be normal children.
This piece is meant to create awareness using the Maragoli language about children born intersex.

Unpaid care work, the often invisible backbone of our societies, encompasses a myriad of responsibilities undertaken by individuals driven by compassion and familial duty. While some engage in paid care work, a significant portion contributes to these essential tasks without financial compensation, relying solely on the intrinsic value of humanity.

Remarkably, unpaid care work reveals a stark gender imbalance, with women disproportionately shouldering the burden. Statistics reveal that women invest five times more hours in unpaid care work compared to their male counterparts. This gendered dynamic places an additional strain on women, impacting their overall well-being and limiting their opportunities for personal and professional growth.

In response to the growing recognition of the significance of care work, institutions have emerged to train and connect care workers with employment opportunities. These initiatives provide essential skills and knowledge, elevating caregiving to a recognized profession. In countries like Kenya, labor laws have been established to protect the rights of care workers, specifying a minimum monthly wage of 15,200, acknowledging the crucial role they play in society.

Despite these advancements, challenges persist, particularly in bridging the gender gap and ensuring fair compensation for the invaluable contributions of care workers. Advocacy for equal recognition and compensation is essential to creating a more equitable society where the weight of unpaid care work is shared more equally.

In exploring the world of care work, it becomes evident that while some are fortunate to earn a living from these essential services, many continue to contribute selflessly, relying on the collective understanding of the inherent humanity in caring for others. The journey towards a more balanced and appreciative acknowledgment of care work continues, shedding light on the dedication of those who provide care, paid or otherwise, shaping the fabric of our communities.
