generally at the time i'm playing with off-beat/messed up tempo.  so i kept some of the timing goofs on purpose.

an airplaine passes overhead, to where i'm not sure.
it draws a contrail of thought in my mind, as it does upon the sky.

this is my first practice using ableton live.  the arrangement started with me driving an apc40 live, then i remixed a little.  using the apc40 is really fun.

recursive contrail

letting chaos run the show after giving it a little structure...

the main source of harmonic movement here is iteration/sequencing over chords based at G#m.  the soft sections are random selections of such and the hard sections are faster iterations over i->VI in order.

i worked a little on giving nice dynamic breaks at transition between sections (first attempt at such, both sections and working on transitions, gasp)

there's a music box (pair) running randomly over elements of the G#m key throughout.

and on top of all the aforementioned structure we're getting some random off-key behavior to help provide some tension.

beat behavior is pretty straightforward.  there's bamboo beat action going on plus a high-hat type element.  the bamboo action is glitched (as well as some parts of the music box) and the high hat type is randomly perturbed to drop out or mis-hit for rhythmic color.

i really like how this turned out.   it feels minmal yet interesting.  it has structure.  wow.  i hardly ever stick to something for 2:30.

to me this is the audio equivalent of a good shape drawing.  it's like basics.  bowls of apples and oranges, spheres and cubes, eh.  it's like: you know the shapes aren't hard; it gets down to perspective and texture and execution.  

anyway hopefully someone else can enjoy it too :)

btw: tags for something like this?  genre?  i have no idea.  the beat structure and meter are actually danceable...

I was working on this beat and an intro to go with it already and the whiskery just fit perfectly, IMHO.

it's a bad habit i think... but i often wind up with a well choreographed, full-tilt set of sounds mingling together.  but w/o a buildup.  so i thought... why not play with the levels so they fade in and out a little... then take them away.  eh, it makes me happy anyway. :)
