KHBT005 arrives via Al Makhboot, who - in a departure from his usual role as label spiritual guide - has descended from his hermitage to present us with six gritty instrumental tracks. Drawing upon bass-heavy dub and lo-fi triphop heritage, KHBT005 was composed entirely using plundered audio material and a battered Roland SP404sx, and features guest appearances by labelmates and collaborators L.P. Fulano and Yaseen.

Originally produced on the first day of Ramadan 2022, between the hours of midnight and 5a.m, Al Makhboot's 'Ramadan in Xinjiang' channels insomnia and international political frustrations. 

In a departure from his smoked-out dub and triphop explorations, Al Makhboot ventures to new territories with a collection of blown out mahraganat, and crunchy lofi house.

Made entirely using plundered audio material and a battered SP404sx Sampler.

Selected excerpts and tracks from Yaseen El Azzouni's original sound installation, commissioned by Egyptian visual artist Dalilah Hassanein for her debut solo gallery 'On The Road' on the 12th of October 2022.

This multi-room, multi-channel installation is made of equal parts ambient soundtrack and resampled field recordings, and is El Azzouni's second foray into gallery-focused audio installations. 

Mirroring Hassanein's workflow of layered paints & graffiti on canvas, this installation focused mainly on heavily resampled audio material, sourced from Cairo's cacophonous streets, as well as soft ambiences intended to highlight the contrasting moods of Cairo streets; endless chaos, and melancholic silence.


The bandcamp download for this project includes two bonus tracks:
1) a live remix of postdrone's 'dawsha FM' created during the setup and operation of the installation. 

2) a mixtape of radio songs and ambience, recorded between the hours of 3am and 7am from 2020-2022, while returning home late at night on Cairo's iconic 'da2ery' highway.

Parameters: Installation must be present in all rooms of the gallery space (including bathrooms), but not distract from Delila's works - both in terms of aesthetic identity as well as creative ethos - and induce states of calm reflection upon, alongside moments crafted to emulate pressured weaving through heavy traffic and roadworks.

On The Road by Dalila Hassanein - Gallery description:
‘The haphazardness of the writing and signs
covering the walls of Cairo drives me to
create prolifically’ she says. The walls that
inspire her are mirror portraits of the city and
its people, personalities and stories.

In her final product Hassanein borrows the
city’s vernacular, her moda operandi of
layering bold and vibrant color impulsively
over time gives each canvas multiple lives,
each layer tells a story of someone or
something that once was.

This visceral navigation of Cairo evokes the
blurred boundaries between its formal and
the informal characters. Walking through the
body of work feels strangely familiar, like
things are always moving but never really
changing or changing but never really
moving.

'On the Road' maps the story of Cairo and
celebrates its creative informality. Its cracks,
used public spaces and lived landscapes are
traced and enlarged for you to see, with
nowhere else to look.'
