Israeli-born Berlin based producer and DJ Omer debuts his first release on Cocktail d'Amore with two offerings of celestial house. The title cut blends the sounds of the east with an immediately seductive atmosphere of bright melodies leaving the listener plenty of room to be transfixed through it's entirety. “Dust” dives deeper to reveal a more melancholic mood built on a symphony of lush pads and swirling metallic percussion. On remix duties are the wonderfully quirky Estonian duo Ajukaja & Andrevski who deliver an oddball re-imagining which sends the original into outer space as it gently builds to sparkling fervor only heard on the outskirts of galaxies. Rounding out the release is Man Power with an acid tinged burner which explodes into en excitement of live percussion and pads leaving any dance floor in complete ecstasy.

When Psychemagik’s Danny McLewin decided to launch Spacetalk Records, he didn’t just want to reissue rare material. From the start, one of his stated aims was to deliver fresh new versions of obscure cuts from his record collection.

It’s perhaps fitting, then, that the label’s second 12” breathes new life into a suitably little-known gem: Avant Garde’s 1982 Euro-boogie B-side, “Everybody’s Lover”.

The track was originally featured on the flip of the seven-piece Dutch outfit’s second and final 7”, “Walking Back To Happiness”. It has been a feature of McLewin’s DJ sets for years, inspiring countless track ID requests from excited clubbers.

Earlier this year, McLewin set out to track down the songwriter-turned-producer behind the record, Avant Garde mastermind Hans Van Hemert. Happily, the search was a fruitful one; not only did Van Hemert own the rights to the song, but he’d also kept hold of the tapes from the original recording sessions.

With the Dutchman’s agreement, McLewin asked old friends Jaz and Party Dad, and label co-owner Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy, to put their own spin on the super-smooth ’82 original. Predictably, they’ve done a bang-up job.

On the A-side you’ll find Jaz & Party Dad’s version, which is little less than the extended 12” version that “Everybody’s Lover” always deserved. Smooth, soulful and tactile, the duo’s rework makes full use of the Dutch band’s wonderful vocals, loved-up chords, sparkling synth flourishes and killer bassline, adding a touch of delay to the beats for added ‘80s boogie effect. 

Murphy takes a different approach on the flip, drawing influence from the pioneering 1980s “proto-house” dubs of acclaimed New York producers Paul Simpson, Winston Jones, Boyd Jarvis and Timmy Regisford. Delay-laden guitar flashes and synthesizer flourishes echo in and out of the mix, whilst saucer-eyed pads rub shoulders with reverb-heavy beats and Avant Garde’s rolling bassline. It’s one of Murphy’s most confident remixes of recent times, and makes a fitting partner to Jaz & Party Dad’s vocal-heavy A-side interpretation.

The other one is from a newcomer from Australia. Murray Lake runs a beautiful studio there and you can hear that in the lush production of this long epic Space take on Vortex Disco. A perfect set opener.

His "Salve a Bahia" is a softly spun, sun-kissed delight; a slightly tooled up re-edit of a lesser-known Brazilian gem, full of jangly acoustic guitars, delay-laden choral vocals, bubbly electronics and gentle tropical intent.

Strangelove Music is delighted to present its first project, two songs from Lena d'Água, one of Portugal’s great musical acts of the early 1980’s.

From the ashes of art pop band Salada de Frutas, Lena rose as the first prominent female bandleader in Portugal. Combining a siren presence and soaring vocals alongside songwriter Luis Fonseca and backing band Atlântida, they released a series of records that wove through the avante-pop sensibilities of the time.

Collected here are two of their more leftfield moments; ‘Jardim Zoológico’ compresses a beguiling mix of new wave, post punk and dub into a short sharp pop format, impossible to properly categorize, the dynamic composition sounding as fresh now as it did 35 years ago. On the flipside, the calmer ‘Tao’ takes Fonseca’s keyboards towards more eastern territory, conjuring up a dreamy synthesized new age vibe. Lena’s beautiful fado hued notes hang poignantly across both songs.

Strangelove Music is an Antipodean based record label established in 2016 to explore our exotic and curious musical passions, sometimes long forgotten, sometimes newly hatched. Expect a mélange of our loves peppering the airwaves in 2017.

Tommy Mandel’s “Mello Magic” on Invisible City Editions is a compilation of personal synth-laden pop songs created between 1980-87 in NYC. His professional work as a keyboardist and vocalist found him on stage and in the studio with many of the 80s greats from the Clash, Todd Rundgren, B-52s, Violent Femmes, The Ramones, Tina Turner, Mark Ronson, Dire Straits and Bryan Adams. While offstage and out of the major studio sessions, Tommy wrote in little books, made animation films and hooked up a massive amount of synthesizers, sequencers,microphones and recorded songs like diary entries. He self released almost 20 CDs, cassettes and one Self Titled 12” Ep. Each song selected here is stunningly simple, lush, desperate, playful, and harmonic, touching on disparate trangents like Brian Wilson, Egyptian Lover, Michael Shrieve,Holger Czukay,  Ariel Pink, YMO, AOR FM West Coast Rock, Arthur Russell, Martin Denny, Peter Gordon, Drexciya, Prince and Private Issued New Age Boogie. Tommy recently jokingly coined his music “corporate ambient” and and it all shouldn’t work, but somehow he manages to effortlessly make each song a Tommy Mandel song - DIY, homespun,personal, stunning, and not too serious. This is perfect pop, charming, sincere, infectious and the work of a humble, good hearted, romantic savant. Tommy Mandel’s “Mello Magic” will be out on limited LP Vinyl release and available Spring 2018. Beware, Discomatin is back. In 2018, the Parisian crew of diggers and DJ’s originally known for their edits goes official with fully licensed and remastered reissues. For this new adventure, they chose an incredible in-demand French boogie EP from Diva, an eighties funk band from Bordeaux.  
Diva only released one EP with La Nuit, a sentimental, almost poetic boogie banger with great synth, guitar and vocal parts. The track could honestly have been a radio hit in the eighties with some real promotion. Today, it’s still time to make it right and it is already an anthem in the French underground disco scene.   
 Originally on the B side of the 1985 original release on Cactus, "La Nuit" is here available with its two different versions (12’’ and 7’’ mix) and comes also with “Prise Au Piège”, a more synth-pop influenced funk track which gave its name to the original release. 
 The band was formed by Gabrielle Andriampanana, Alex Louisor and Olivier Renoir. Before Diva, these last two already played together in the local new-wave band Bolton which was one of the first of the area to use synthetisers. Even if they had a small recognition at the time, the original release stood quite underground. Thanks to Discomatin, it’s now available to the real connoisseurs and still with the fantastic illustrations of French artist Camille de Cussac on the back cover.
