“My music is as progressive for Hip-hop, as my commitment to my community is for Detroit.”—Khary WAE Frazier

To understand the Detroit experience, you need to hear the music of Khary WAE (Working At Excellence) Frazier, two-time award nominee for the Most Outstanding Hip-hop Performer at the Detroit Music Awards in 2008 and 2009. He is a Hip-hop artist and community advocate introducing audiences to a better understanding of Detroit, the Black experience, and Hip-hop. He partnered with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for Kwanzaa celebrations starting from 2010. 

Frazier developed the “Follow the Leader” Hip-hop Leadership workshop series, where over 2,500 Detroit students engaged in organizational training from 2008 – 2011. His advocacy provides a balance for his music that is a gateway to gathering an intrinsic value for Detroit.
 
Frazier’s 2015 album “If Detroit were Heaven,” is an experiential journey from his Rosa Parks boulevard neighborhood to his now eclectic network of rockers, jazz players, electronic musicians, and community leaders.
