"Pesante" is a song written by Khryss Arañas last October 2018 for the celebration of the Peasant Month. The song expresses the current condition of Filipino farmers suffering under our semi-colonial and semi-feudal society. Since the day it was written, "Pesante" has been performed in various mass demonstrations, cultural activities, gatherings, and other activities that advocate for peasants' rights.

Filipino farmers are facing great a crisis due to their economic and political standing. Under the current administration, 242 farmers have been killed. In Bicol, KARAPATAN-Bicol has recorded 63 Bicolanos as victims of extrajudicial killings, 34 of which are farmers. The intensifying military presence in Bicol under Memorandum Order 32 contributes to the continuous killings perpetuated by the current regime. 

Our farmers are being killed not just by bullets but also of hunger. The passage of the Rice Liberalization Law by Cynthia Villar has paved the way for more farmer's landlessness due to farmers being forced to sell what little land they have to alleviate the effects of retarded economic system and anti-poor government policies. Almost a year after the song was made, raw guitar stem and vocals were finally recorded thanks to Hanina Britanico. It was enhanced, mastered, and arranged by Pordalab and Musika Publiko.
