kickin' up dust drops part 2 of the 'Ona' EP by George Davis. 

A jazzy bassline, snazzy piano keys and a rhythmical vocal send hips swinging and shoulders shaking in 'Gomera', a track which Chicagoan legend Roy Davis Jr. then remixes with a 'Chitown Vibe'. Squelchy synths and organic percussion enter his version with a stylish swagger, maintaining the keys while moving the vocals to the back of the mix. Next up, 'Bumpa' is built for the dancefloor, an infectious groove forming the base for whimsical flute-like melodies, before 'Soul Journey' closes out the record with a gorgeous slow-burning vision of sunset shores and distant views. 

Following on from his first 'Ona' EP which dropped on kickin' up dust in March, and which won the support of artists like Honey Dijon, Nightmares On Wax, DJ Sneak and many more, George Davis now drops part two in the series. The german label, which initially started in 2021 as a party in the techno capital of Berlin, first turned heads hosting artists with a funkier edge to them such as Maurice Fulton, DJ Deep, and Louie Vega.

Hey ! My latest show for Defected Records / Glitterbox is now online and I dug deep into my funk 7”s and disco 12”s to give you a non stop uptempo groove odessey. It’s been quite a journey for me to build the studio and slowly have everything shift into place, explore where things can be, how to film , the first time with new lights and a GoPro . Just ordered a boom, so I ll be a able to film from above the DJ set and give a better view. Getting a second camera and maybe a third. Feedback is of course welcome , even though it’s a very slow process but I am happy to see some results . Ah yeah I got those fancy turntable plinths and they REALLY bring the room together. 
Maybe I was always a bit intimidated by my 7”s and didn’t trust I could mix them just as tight as 12”s or digital. Happy to feel now at ease enough to go for whatever, whenever I feel like it. Very liberating and excited for all the journeys ahead of me. 
It’s perhaps no secret that I have a deep love for making mixtapes. Still my favourite way of getting to know my own record collection. 
Hope you ll enjoy this as much as I did making it, even though prep was a bit exhausting with two kids in the house. I always need to “reactivate” tunes, figure out tempo, vibe and mixability and I ended up listening to a few 100 records in order to bring it down to these 40 or so tunes. DJs know of course. 
Will put together the playlist as well and upload to my SoundCloud as soon as possible too.

OOFT! - Radio Buena Vida 11.11.23

Born 1970 near Stuttgart, Germany. Started mixing and collecting records in 1985. After competing in various DJ battles (such as the DMC German Championships 1991) he had his first residency in a club in Stuttgart in 1991. During the 90's he was mostly known as a Hip Hop DJ/producer and as a member of chart topping Hip Hop band Freundeskreis. With Freundeskreis he released 2 gold selling studio albums, 1 live album and a best of album (FK 10 in 2007). Since 2000 he released 4 solo albums, made countless Remixes (The Jackson 5, Das EFX, The Pharcyde, Die Fantastischen Vier, Malente just to name a few) and his newer projects include Motor Mouth with Philip König and Bodymovin with DJ Thomilla and the Boogie/Funk project Ground Control. Nowadays he's mostly into Modern Funk, House, Electro- + Discofunk. As a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s his influences are Discofunk, Electrofunk, Boogie, Soul, Italo Disco, Hip Hop and House.

DJ Pippy warmed the venue up lovely for just over an hour with some deep sweetness.
I start around the 1hr 10 min mark.
