Beyond the grassy field, the ocean opens wide,
and the faint silhouette of an island melts into the sky.
A lone bird spreads its wings across the vast blue,
and when I turn my eyes, another flock drifts by.
Everything that’s here, everything that’s arrived here—
even the butterfly resting at my feet.
In sunlight warm enough to burn,
I narrow my eyes, not wanting to see anything up close.
Just trying to become a small part of the universe.
