“BASS DOWN, MASK UP- Breakbeat United Vol.18” is a 2.5hr mix featuring a 65 track journey through 2020 Breaks. This live, one-take recording is something I have been planning and working on since late last year and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Packed with more BOOM & BASS than your dancing shoes can ever funk to, this is officially the longest mix in my signature Breakbeat United Series. My inspirado came from how much fun it was doing my 3 hour long “Quarantine Boom” Twitch shows during most of the 2020 pandemic. Those experiences made me realize how much I enjoy longer and deeper sets, but they only featured classic music from my back catalogue. Since all live shows were canceled because of Covid-19, I found myself with no creative outlet for my desire to play “NEW” Breaks released during 2020, so this project was born. “Bass Down. Mask Up” is a combination of that newfound love for the “long set” but with new music and my signature style of aggressive harmonic mixing. With an emphasis on the flow and vibe, this set is sure to delight the senses and please even the most fickle of Breakbeat fans! It’s also guaranteed to make any BBU vet giddy with BASS! Strap in for a ride you will not soon forget!

On this weeks episode of the Space Cowboys RIPEcast, we are bringing you a guest mix from long time cowboy favorite dj and producer Deekline.  

Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Boss man chief of the London to Brighton-spanning Hot Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bonafide bass music icon is currently experiencing a new lease of life following the phenomenal success of his new Gutter Gutter imprint. 

Tracks such as Got to Believe, Deepa and the new jungle anthem Good to Have the Feelin, with the legendary Tippa Irie, have this year picked up play and support from some of the biggest names in the business, DJs such as MistaJam and Annie Mac, on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. 

In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. A producer whose Hot Cakes and Gutter Gutter brands have become a byword for bassbin-shaking bravado, this is one artist who's cooking up a storm right now.

The original members of the Freestylers are Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey who started off their musical careers in the mid 1990's. They released their first two albums ‘We Rock Hard’ and ‘Pressure Point’ on the legendary Breakbeat label Freskanova. The third and forth albums ‘Raw as F**k’ and ‘Adventures in Freestyle’ were released on ‘Against The Grain’another Breaks power house based label. Their last album from 2013 ‘The Coming Storm’ was released through Black Hole Recordings. 

The Freestylers began their career as an Urban Electronic Music Act, and their early tunes ‘B-Boy Stance,’ ‘Ruffneck’ and ‘Warning’ set the marker. As their music progressed so did their anthems with the seminal tunes ‘Punks’, ‘Boom Blast’, ‘Fasten Your Seat-Belts,’ ‘Painkiller’ and more recently ‘Cracks.’ In addition to their status as underground heroes, they have gained commercial success with their huge global hit ‘Push Up’ and have had their music featured in TV and film, including the hugely successful comedy film Zoolander.
