Sensational British/Dutch trio Cubicolor share brand new single ‘Summer & Smoke’ on July 27, from their forthcoming album ‘Sometime Not Now’ out October 28 on Anjunadeep. 

Cubicolor are a British/Dutch three piece that lie somewhere in between the electronic and indie genre, consisting of Ariaan, Peter and Tim hailing from notably different backgrounds, all with very successful previous musical experiences behind them. A powerful sense of cohesion is at the very core of Cubicolor, with each member of the group bringing equal measures of musical knowledge. Together, their collective expertise provides an extra sense of perspective, talent and inspiration to Cubicolor’s unique, electronic fusion, with a real intuitive flair.

The latest release from the trio titled ‘Summer & Smoke’ was co-produced by &ME, part of the acclaimed Keinemusik collective who produced a number of tracks on Drake’s #1 album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’, and has proved to be a vibrant electronic taste of what’s to come. ‘Summer & Smoke’ has an evocative underground feel to it, reflecting the groups’ musical abilities and knack for creating dancefloor moments. Alongside ‘Summer & Smoke’, Cubicolor have also shared the title of their upcoming album ‘Sometime Not Now’ that was inspired by the concept of taking your chances when life presents them to you, along with the thoughts of hope and regret, and the constant battles of risk and reward. Cubicolor member, Peter [Kriek] explained: “To get the right answers, you first need to ask the right questions.” In a statement that summarises the album. ‘Sometime Not Now’ as a construct is an album filled with introspection, self-reflection and critical thinking, whilst on a musical level is bold, expansive and a big statement from the British/Dutch trio in claiming their place among the musical elite.

German producer Ryan Davis returns to Anjunadeep with double-cut ‘Waves / Hold On’. Over the past 10 years, Davis has carved out a niche all of his own, releasing exquisite melodic techno and electronica on revered labels Bedrock, Traum, and his own Klangwelt label. Along the way, he’s been championed by Sasha, Stephan Bodzin, Hernan Cattaneo and John Digweed, and collaborated with Max Cooper and Applescal.

Davis showcases his club-centric side in ‘Waves’ and ‘Hold On’. Stepping back from the ambient aesthetic of his last ‘Home EP’, Davis blends analogue sound design and soothing percussive rhythm in two immersive techno tracks.

Ryan Davis - Hold On

Berlin-based producer and DJ Kevin Huizing, aka Budakid, returns to Anjunadeep with the release of ‘Surga’, alongside a percussion-laden remix from UK-based producer Joseph Ashworth.

Budakid pairs the mesmeric vocals of dutch singer Esther Veen with breakbeat drums and atmospheric sound design, demonstrating why he’s gained support from heavyweights such as Solomun, Jazzanova, Sasha, Joris Voorn, Guy J, Kölsch and Deadmau5. 

Following his recent Anjunadeep release ‘Kira EP’, Joseph Ashworth now puts his spin on ‘Surga’, intertwining intricate melodies with bold piano chords and carefully crafted synths.

Kidnap is an artist whose music overflows with emotion - rich and powerfully evocative.

Recording in London, Kidnap (real name Matthew Relton) likens his process to that of a sculptor, starting with a block of sound and chopping away until a shape emerges. As such, each song exists ornately carved with a handcrafted subtly.

Still just 33, Relton is already something of an industry veteran. Releasing his first single in 2012 kicked off an eight-year stretch of global touring that came to a grinding halt when the pandemic put the world on pause.

2024 marks a new chapter for Kidnap, with his next body of work on the horizon. Set against the backdrop of a changing world and the arrival of a baby daughter, Relton offers a bittersweet reflection on the passing of time. ‘It’s about looking back on the last 12 years — the touring and the friends and the sleeplessness,” says Relton, “and realising that in order to embrace the life I have now, I need to let it all go.’ The music shimmers with nostalgia. Signature sad melodies dance deftly around commanding synth lines, altogether sounding like an artist with a new found sense of purpose.
