‘Octopi’ is the lead single taken from Owl & Mouse’s forthcoming debut album ‘Departures’.

Owl & Mouse are led by Australian songwriter Hannah Botting, sister of Allo Darlin’ bassist Bill Botting. The release of Octopi coincides with the band’s tour of the UK and Norway, joining American label mates The Smittens.

The boldly open hearted yet delicate songs come straight out of the same school of Australian songwriting as The Go-Betweens, Triffids and Courtney Barnett, with lyrics that draw on the familiar to talk about the universal difficulties of fond farewells, baggage carousels, and missed connections.  

Owl & Mouse began life as a sister act, with Hannah and Jen Botting, before expanding after recording their last EP, to include Tom Wade (We Aeronauts) and the prolific pairing of Emma Winston and Dan Mayfield (Enderby's Room, Darren Hayman's Long Parliament). 

Singer and ukulele player, Hannah Botting, said: “This was one of the first songs, or bits of songs that Tom and I wrote together. He had an idea of writing a song about the end of a relationship, when you know it’s over but neither of you will say it yet. He wrote the lyrics to the ending, and told me what he thought it was about and I went away and wrote the rest. I had this image in my head of clearing out a home that you’d shared with someone, trying to make it not look like each other any more.”

Out of Gothenburg comes Holy Now, a project that grew out of a strong need to create music from the heart, and their debut 7” single out 19th August via Beech Coma. With intimate melodies, yelling drums and sprawling choruses, the four piece lead you through their unique universe of timeless pop music in the vein of Alvvays, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Angel Olsen.

‘Wake Up’, a veritable pop dream of delirious vocals, riveting guitar solos and complex sensibilities, is the first taste of Julia Olander’s outstanding songwriting potential, backed by Ylva Holmdahl, Samuel Von Bahr and Hampus Eiderström Swahn. Tinged with melancholy throughout, the song also offers a light at the end of the tunnel. “It’s about wanting someone so much that everything gets messed up,” the band explain. “It’s about leaving, returning and letting go.”

‘Wake Up’ / ‘Please Love Me’ is released on 7” single on 19th August via Beech Coma. The single is the fourth instalment of a bi-monthly subscription series from the label, part-funded by Arts Council England, that has so far seen releases from Bruising, Lou E and Posture.

After a few months of sitting on this EP we’re incredibly excited to be sharing it with you. ‘Brings the Storm Cloud’ was recorded at Holy Mountain studios in London and is inspired by Khmer pop and the fictional historical events from which it takes its name.

In doing so Ski Saigon have perfectly captured the humidity and closeness of a jungle and channeled it into bedroom pop wooziness. Imagine Public Service Broadcasting and Bradford Cox popping a couple of Valium and jamming it out and you’d probably end up with something similar to this.

With the extensive backstory surrounding the EP we felt the only way to release it would be as a book. 32 pages long and limited to just 100 copies the book details in beautiful photos and words the complete history of Ski Saigon (the historic events not the band). It’s due for release August 26th and is available to pre-order now.
