Eomac / Lakker

As part of Lakker alongside production partner Dara Smith, Ian McDonnell has been exploring various forms of music for the best part of a decade, with the Dublin-based pair becoming an increasingly prominent name in techno circles over the past few years. It was perhaps their 2011 Killekill debut Spider Silk where Lakker's heavily atmospheric, dark and broken brand of techno really began to crystallise, and the pair have subsequently gone on to grace the likes of Stroboscopic Artefacts, Blueprint, Candela Rising and most recently R&S Records.

Away from Lakker, McDonnell has also been devoting time to building up a solid discography under the solo guise, with several high-profile releases over the past year for The Trilogy Tapes, Code Is Law, and the Candela Rising and Killekill labels he clearly has a strong working relationship with. Indeed, the latter Berlin-based label seem very pleased to be releasing Spectre, McDonnell's debut album proper as Eomac next month. To toast its impending arrival, McDonnell agreed to mix up a selection of tracks for our podcast series which begins and ends with Lakker cuts and crams in material from his forthcoming Eomac album alongside material from Streetwalker, Evian Christ, Actress, JT '$tinkworkz' Stewart, Voices From The Lake and more.

Andres Saigg is a DJ/Producer from Chubut, Argentina. DJing since 2010 and got his first release on Mal Records (Paraguay) in 2021 but already has releases on such big labels as Mosaique Records, Perlas, Bestiario Collective, Ovelha Trax, Your Character, Trucking Records, CLUB SP33D, Electric Music Foundation, RI7MO, Jade, Room Records, Wachita China, CLUSTER TRAXX, n4in9n4in, Mars Frequency, Furatena Juicy Gang & more.
As he says he is pushing a futuristic electro sound, expanding the accelerated and deep frequency range going through several very versatile styles and the idea is to continue creating new sounds in his future tracks. Saigg will be announcing some of his new works in very near future.

Binary Algorithms, Robert Cosmic, /DL/MS/, jadzia, and Saigg – five indispensable protagonists of a new electro VA series — plug back into the wilderness. In line with its FTA_VA02 — Building Bridges, Breaking Walls — statement, Furatena unveils a new compilation series that reinforces cross-scene collaboration and brings the label back to its roots: futuristic, yet dancefloor–focused electro break–beats.

AX/{v1} opens with the most remarkable and long-awaited unreleased track by Binary Algorithms: "En Mi Barrio" showcases pulsating acidic basslines, metallic, hard-hitting snares, arpeggiated synth shots, and — as a final flourish — Robert Cosmic’s tell-tale vocal delivery crowns it all, shaping a massive, classic electro hymn. Next up, Furatena welcomes Vienna based Trust-affiliated duo /DL/MS/: "Regressive Behaviour" introduces an intricate sound design, textured basslines and crescendos of noise in constant tension that carve through hammering 808s and chrome-laced, blurred vocals.

The second half is followed by jadzia, who returns after three years with "Hybrid State," a 140 BPM heater: glitched, synthesized percussion trace a razor-edged bassline, while a cracking, driving kick and grainy pads descend into obscure, psychedelic electro. Closing the four-tracker, Furatena’s associate Saigg signs off with his very own signature — "Gladiator" delivers bass-driven pulses and bubbling tones that slice through reverberant atmospheres and veiled melodies, dissolving into a shadow-drenched sonic field.

Colombian imprint Furatena return with 'AX-V1', a razor-sharp various artists dispatch aimed straight at the post-industrial underbelly of the club...Our pick lands on /DL/MS/’s ‘Regressive Behaviour’, a piece of sonic brinkmanship clocking in at a neurotic 146 BPM. The track kicks off like an alarm from another planet, a strobe-lit march of arpeggiated distress signals and saturated low-end mechanics. Ian is one half of LAKKER, who also released on Killekill (as well as on blueprint and many other labels), but also with his solo productions he has proven himself as one producer to watch. His sound design is extreme and unique. He creates dense atmospheres and fills them with subtle melodic elements, pushes them forward with heavy basslines and markable, definitely unconventional drum programming.
With club play by no less than Aphex Twin amongst others, EOMAC is a name that is on the verge of exploding onto the scene.
SPOOCK, his release for our label displays the wide range of styles EOMAC can combine, and so does this dj mix.

Ian McDonnell and Dara Smith are Lakker. They're based in Dublin and have been producing together for the past decade. After releasing their debut album 'Ruido' in 2007 it wasn't until 2011 when they released their follow up record 'Spider Silk' on the Berlin based label Killekill. 'Spider Silk' helped open them up to Berlin's thriving techno scene as well as James Ruskins highly revered Blueprint imprint and Love Love Records.

Following their remix of Dadub's track 'Path'on Stroboscopic Artefacts', Lakker now return to the label with 'Monad XIV' for their first full release on Stroboscopic Artfacts. We caught up with Ian and Dara ahead of the release of 'Monad XIV' and discuss their new record as well as becoming part of the Stroboscopic Artefacts' crew. We also look back at their musical heritage, influences and their most poignant moments to date.
