Soundscape mix commissioned by Philip Huang’s INDIGO WORLD  research project, premiered at INDIGO WORLD's immersive public indigo dyeing installation taking place in the fields of Wonderfruit’s 2022 edition. 

Indigo dye, derived from the Indigofera Tinctoria plant, is a multi-faceted pigment part of the local indigenous culture in Northeastern Thailand. Used in tandem with textile-weaving cultures, the plant is harvested and made into a paste, which must be fed with vegetable waste and juice from the land, producing a long-lasting dye.

Weaving in field recordings from Sakon Nakhon, Northeast Thailand, with ambient tapestries, this is a nostalgic tribute to the complex histories of the plant.

Bruce is Larry McCarthy, a musician and DJ who has been transcending the frontiers of underground electronic music in its many shapes and forms for well over a decade. One of the major figures of the new generation of UK bass music, Larry is affiliated with the labels at the vanguard of the genre including Hessle Audio, Timedance and Livity Sound yet the expanse of his sonic world stretches out way beyond the scope of these outlets alone. Bruce’s invested interest in boundless artistic experimentation and candid self-expression lead to the release his pop ambient magnum opus “Not Ready For Love” in 2023 and is impeccably presented in this powerful and deeply emotive mix 🔮

This beautiful recording captures the essence of an engaged deep listening experience within the context of conscious retreat meets passionate interest in experimental electro-acoustic music. Challenging and sublime, it is a portal to mindful contemplation of the sound & silence continuum, riding through swells of field recordings, vocal music, raw electro-acoustic experiments and both dark and luminous ambient. Yakup aka Jakob Mehmet is a local DJ based on Gadigal land/Sydney. He can attribute a lot of influences to classic genres like Funk, Disco, Hip hop and New wave. The slinky, swung out grooves of NY house or a poppy melody on a saw bass electro hook is enough to make him smile or wince his face. Leaning into nostalgia and with a fun-loving attitude Yakup can appreciate both the what-you-see-is-what-you-get and the alternative side of genres when approaching his selections - all in all, always a mixed bag. He also loves to collaboratively curate and organise a party called Bump! with his friends.

This mix is dedicated to Hande and her cherished musical influence.
