It was a race against time, whoever made it to the finish line first would make it out alive — the same couldn't be said for the rest. The journey had been treacherous and many had been left behind, leaving only the most determined and strong-minded to find their way there in one piece. Competition had pitted them against one another, friendships had been severed, relationships ruined; now it was every man for themselves. 

With a catalogue that already boasts releases for Scuffed Records, Time Is Now Records and Mask Music, London's Fiesta Soundsystem is now bringing his rhythmic, bass-heavy workouts to Lauren Chalmers and Paul Patterson's Of Paradise imprint. Across the four tracks on ‘Not To Be' Fiesta Soundsystem gives us another taste of the sounds he's become synonymous with: slick, futuristic jungle and eerie DnB with plenty of bass to boot.

PREMIERE: Fiesta Soundsystem - Acid Tool [Of Paradise]

Let’s get to the point: SPEED, the latest release from MALT, is built to rattle the dance floor. Its foundation is a bass synth going for a jog, taking cheeky steps but on a determined pace. The drums are programmed to propel and leave no dead air. Don’t mistake it for a straightforward DJ tool, though: the track kicks off with a simple “woo!” and takes its time opening up into a frenetic sci-fi heist. Teases of breaks and glassy arpeggios come to a head and flip the picture, throwing you curveballs and keeping you on your toes. Like the best blockbusters, it’s an action sequence that finds time to be lush and methodical. Yes, at its core, it’s a track designed to get you there. It’s also a track that doesn’t have all day—it needs you to hurry up and fucking dance.

For the steadier heads, the DubMax Version provides the bounce with a more gradual measure. A twisted vocal echoes throughout, almost a chuckle resonating past the chugging and shrugging. It’s a romp. Adam O also boards on with a remix, fixing to take you deeper into the bogs. Knocking garage kicks grab you by the limbs; grimy bass synths pull you into the proceedings. If the original was a race against time, this one’s a test against space, tossing you around within its bounds.

The cherry on top: MALT’s remix of an unreleased Adam O track, “What’s the Password”, an expeditious thriller. Evoking late 20th century paranoia, it moves at a breakneck speed to take you through fiber optics and dial-up lines, through command windows and terminals, to get you back to basics. Wipe the sweat off your brows.

After a period of quiet focus, MALT—a secret weapon and enduring mainstay of Los Angeles—briskly returns with a laser-precise EP that’ll steam up dance floors everywhere. Refill your fog machines and pick up the pace; this one’ll get things going.

Moisk aka Pletnev & Fourmi Rouz delve into the depths of psychedelia soundscapes with their latest release “Tetris Life’’ on Terra Magica Rec. The duo skillfully balances modular sounds and shimmers through acid synthesizers with a wide range of psychedelic soundscapes from uptempo half-beat to raw, energetic techno trance, inviting you into a mesmerizing sci-fi universe. The EP features tracks like “Tetris Life” and “A Glass of Coke with Ice”, that explore underground ambient deserts and immersive jungle improvisations. This is followed by dark and slow breakbeat cuts that transition into faster-paced, floating atmospheric IDM tunes. The 12’’ contains many choppy old-school loops and uptempo trance breakdowns, as in “Orange Button’’ and “Wrong Stability”. Solenoid returns to House Music with a fantastic release from an emerging DJ and producer of great talent: Ahni. The three tracks of the EP "Charli" are characterised by a distinct 90s progressive house vibe while always keeping an eye towards the contemporary, maintaining a high BPM and strong energy throughout. An EP designed for the dance floor with tribal and hypnotic hints, as seen in the opening track "Solenoid Samba," but also featuring more "Pop" elements as in the case of the title track "Charli” and “This Land Is Still My Home”. We can't wait to hear Ahni's debut album lighting up the dance floors.

Switching within digital binaries, analogue flux, and all forms of degradation in between, a creature is kickstarted to life, as if awoken with locomotion's full might. Helena Hauff delivers a mix for Tresor's Kern series, lashing together a sound world with a potent barrage of industrial dance music.

Scorched-earth missives attract metals and mining chemicals, leaving little in its wake but aggravated and chaotic experiments of lateral hypotheses in acid brine. Like a hyperloop through this labyrinth, this high-velocity future is both beautiful and evil, glinting embers through low-bit fogged-out clusters. 100 metre-high aluminium pylons vibrate, each captivated by their electrified foundations. There is no place for dust to settle on the floor. Where a loose TB-tribalism knocks switches and pounds upward synaptic shocks, life down there is too rapid. Not to be taken lying down, this is the viable path forward without the shackles of turgid passivity. The effect is no less thrilling than crucial, as it presents an essential DJ of our times.

Settling into swift 150bpm groove, Hauff ploughs through shepherd-tone electro, ghetto bumps, and grizzled techno. A new collaborative track with Morah plays a rough game of meter, with Hauff's signature sound clear as ever ripping apart new dimensions with a brutal disorder over deceptive bass synths. The visceral crunch of the present is no more clear than at the halfway point, a threshold in which the breakneck electro falls apart, with the rabid foam of Nasenbluten's ballsy gabber anthem Intellectual Killer. Slowly more room to breathe comes into view, the pace drawn down revealing a strange sense of resolution, with expansive synths hinting at a beckoning euphoria. At this moment, Helena Hauff is clearly in full stride, uniquely melding fragile machinations against anarchic human interventions.
