Sine Sixty Four (Poem)

I wouldn't consider myself a bird aficionado like Messiaen, but many times, going on a stroll, I've been pleasantly intrigued by the birds singing. So free of any music theory, I wanted to compose something like a bird singing to its kin; a song of sensuality, wonder, of love for being alive, and resilience too. Because despite man-made destruction, the sunbird has, and will, never die.

Verse 1 ; Her World
I live high above Sunset, twenty-two floors up,
where the city looks small and men look smaller.
My mornings start in Beverly Hills,
under lights that never forgive wrinkles or lies.
They think I’m chasing money,
but really, I’m chasing silence.
By night I slide into my Pagani, leather cold, engine hot,
bacon milkshake melting in the cup holder.
It’s the only sweet thing that doesn’t talk back.

Verse 2 ; Her Chaos
Two men keep orbiting my life like bad satellites.
One wants to fix me,
the other wants to own the idea of me.
When I walk into the club, super neon,
I listen to music, my favorite DJs,
DJ Sas is spinning, Zemandan in Unknown Knowns.
They make this club go wild.
But then, I see you and you.
I see them both pretending they don’t see each other.
The lights flicker like warnings.
One of them feels like he’s John Wick,
the other thinks he’s James Bond,
and this makes me chuckle as I watch.
Because neither of them realizes
the real weapon in the room is me.
One watches me like a saint,
the other like a hitman,
fingers twitching like he’s holding a TTI JW3 Combat Master.
But I’m the trigger.

Verse 3 ; Her Exit
Wilshire, Rodeo, Melrose, they all know my perfume by now.
But tonight, I’m done.
I don’t choose either of them.
I choose the highway,
Malibu wind in my hair, engine roaring like confession.
The road doesn’t ask questions.
The night doesn’t care who wins.
And for the first time,
I’m not somebody’s reason.
I’m just free.
