This track is a interview of a Grandmother set to music done by a member of our collective, Freetruth. He produced this track to honor his ancestor's struggle. It tells the story of the Bloody Island Massacre when his people were slaughtered. It is one of the stories that comprises what Antithesis is made of and what we come from. When we resist it is not for fame, glory, money or accolades. We struggle to honor the memories of those who came before us and to never let our people forget what was done and being done to us! Fame is NOT our goal, fortune is NOT our destiny. Prepare for SURVIVAL!

Multi instrumentalist Sean Desiree's debut EP Bells Roar is a forceful and sensitive collection of six beautiful and personal songs. Elements of loopy post-rock guitars, hip hop beats, and R and B vocals combine with an ease and minutia equity suited for the dance floor, living room, or headphones. If the talent Sean Desiree shows on this debut is any indication of what is to come we will be hearing a lot from her.  The vocals, guitar layering and synth-driven music beats are best described as synth-pop/post-rock/soul. The album also features Kiran Gandhi, MIA’s drummer for her Matangi tour.   The two singles off the album are "Slow" and "Step Up, Step Back."

All songs written and performed by Bell's Roar. Produced, engineered and mixed by Cedar Apffel.  All music was recorded at Cedar Apfell’s Alligator Lady Studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  All tracks are mastered by Palemen.  Artist Alisa Sikelianos-Carter created cover art.

This song, “Kylo,” comes out of my personal contact with some of the Native elders and youth who have been among the practical leaders of the resistance against the DAPL, and particularly with Kylo Prince, Ojibwe/Dakota spiritual leader, who the song is named after. The voice you hear speaking in the song is his – the audio samples come from an interview he gave to Brett Jelinek, correspondent for the People’s Tribune, one of my travel companions to Standing Rock in October 2016. (Kylo and Brett gave me permission to use the samples.)

They are, collectively, a voice of spiritual guidance –  a voice to heed in these times, when all of life on Earth may depend on our ability to win the hearts and minds of the American people to the cause of creating a new-old society, based on spirituality and goodness, where cooperation with and between all life is the guiding principle.

Kinnie Starr is one of Canada’s most adored and critically acclaimed underground musicians. Widely known as an artist with an original, authentic voice, Starr relies on “raw feral talent” (Globe and Mail), solid groove, and a love for wordplay whether performing folky hip-hop, heartfelt guitar songs or spoken word. She has been blazing trails since 1996 with her beat slamming recordings, outspoken race and gender politics, intelligent and edgy visual art and striking looks. 

A Juno Award winning producer (2010, Digging Roots “We Are”) and Juno nominated artist (2004, “Sun Again”), Kinnie Starr has been an active artist and role model in the Canadian arts scene for more than fifteen years, and has been a significant influence to other artists including Tegan & Sara and Nelly Furtado. She has toured extensively throughout her career including the US, Europe and Asia, and recently performed at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The New Yorker describes her as "edgy and enchanting". 

Starr will release her 6th album, "Kiss It", in August 2013. Entirely self produced, the record is based on sparse, fresh, electro hip hop beats created by Kinnie herself. Since hip hop tends to cater exclusively to homogenized male sexuality, Starr has chosen to base her new album on positive female sexuality. A sense of inquiry about what 'home' is dominates the album content as a reflection of our globally minded thinking. And of course, Starr's signature, sensual, singspeak rap style is the backbone of everything.
