“Concept of reverse Uncanny Valley”

Uncanny valley is a theory by roboticist Masahiro Mori published in 1970. According to it, the more an android robot resembles a human, the more monstrous its imperfections appear to them. Many humans will feel more at ease in front of a clearly artificial robot or AI, than in front of a robot pretending to be human, with too-perfect skin, clothes and eyes. Rejection will become stronger and stronger, and then, when a specific peak is reached, acceptance is feasible. When the entity is almost totally human in appearance, to the point of confusion, a sensation of strangeness, through cognitive dissonance, is provoked by each of its non-human aspects. The disgust, as well as the attraction, that human beings feel towards these humanoids is similar to that provoked by the undead, haunted dolls, reptilians or vampires in popular culture. Let’s take the concept in reverse: The Kiosk is no longer the Kiosk during the show, but it’s still the Kiosk. Humans try not to be human anymore, but they’re still human. The sound tries to resemble real sound, but it doesn’t fit in with the demands of DJs and listeners. We’re too used to hearing and seeing a human behind a turntable, so let’s desecrate it and create a valley of the strange for DJs. Concept by Eurrope & Friends.
