Anemone 009 features an exquisite live set performed in the Mojave Desert by electronic hardware artist, Anemone co-organizer, and head of Corduroy Garden rave crew and sound system, Josiah Burnham aka JdB.

There’s something captivating about the connection between the desert and the sea. Resilient life surviving in extreme environments: The ocotillo cactus resembles the tentacles of an anemone :-) Mystery, expansiveness, and the feeling of infinity on the horizon line. How fascinating that Earth’s driest places evoke the essence of the ocean. Here, JdB explores this connection, performing a deeply aquatic sound under the desert stars ✨

Recorded October 13th, 12:00am-2:00am at Bear’s. Johnson Valley is a very special place to me, I’m grateful for the opportunity to play in this beautiful Desert setting, knowing full well how much energy, time and effort has gone into setting up and running a state of the art 4 point sound system for 3 Days straight. Thank you to Bear, Anthony, Mandolin, Jonathon, Noa, and Brian especially for ensuring a high quality recording came back with me. The energy of this gathering is experimental and free spirited, I try to come to this space relatively empty, patient, and mindful of each element I’m bringing into the mix. I treat this quiet space as my own personal studio, and attempt to tune the frequencies. 

At it’s heart, this is DAWless dub techno, I’m using the Digitakt as my Brain drum, synth and sequencer, Digitone for melodies bass and chords, TR-8 for accompanied drums, SH01A for dub chords and Filter Freq Resonance, all running into a 1010 Bluebox Mixer. I run two effects chains, Eventide Space Reverb (Dark Matter), and Overdrive > Flanger > Delay > Reverb Chain.

Anemone 009: JdB

Micaela Casella, aka E L A, is an Argentinian DJ based in Milan who began her musical journey in 2011 in Córdoba, Argentina. Returning to Buenos Aires, she deepened her connection with Techno through the “Arjaus” School of Electronic Music, where she honed her technical and production skills. Her sound is defined by ambient soundscapes and subtle grooves, filled with psychedelic nuances that create innovative atmospheres, hypnotic rhythms, and seamless transitions.

Box5ive, a London-based DJ, live performer, and film composer, released his debut LP in June 2024 on @coclear_ and has also featured on labels like Well Street, Comic Sans Records, Initiate, and Panel Audio. His music spans UK techno, ambient, IDM, and cinematic, bass-heavy dub, blending experimental and atmospheric sounds to create a unique sonic landscape.

Music for Whales, an ambient radio transmission. The longest and most beautiful musical journey of the year. 

We have mixed, in an obscene set given its length, all the tracks that have been aired in 2024 on the radio show "Música para Ballenas", a programme where the best releases of the genre are highlighted and commented (in Spanish) on a monthly basis. Each of the tracks is a gateway to their full experience: their complete album. There are 130 tracks referring to as many albums. SoundCloud doesn't let us show so much text so the tracklist will be displayed in the comments or in a more visual way in this IG post: (under construction)

We recommend five different modes of listening: 

-Analytically, by intellectualising the mixes and looking at the musicians who create the music. As the playback progresses, you will see in the comments the track id and a link to bandcamp where you can find the complete album and support the artist if you consider it appropriate. They are mixed in chronological order of release so you can look back over the months that have completed this 2024.

-As a soundtrack to your routines, meetings and conversations. . Press play and leave it on in the background for a meeting with your people, at work, or on a trip. Let the best tracks of the year comb your routine in the background. It is music that does not interfere in an explicit way in the environment, but in a latently modulating way; it inspires to bring out the best prose of the conversationalists and the best walk of the walkers. 

-By looking at the track list you can go directly to the artist that catches your attention, listen to their track and expand your enjoyment by going to their full album.

-Press play in shuffle mode anywhere in the set and let yourself go for about 50-60 minutes, just like a normal session. Promised that you will love the mixes and the plot that forms the succession of tracks. 

-Don't listen to it. Just go to the comments and go straight to the LPs, there's some great music coming out this year, every year is better than the last.
