Caroune is a London-based DJ and the co-founder of Osmura record label, event and mix series.
From ambient/dub to deep techno and drum & bass, she blends the genres to create mystical journeys. For the past year Caroune has played at underground events in London and Paris. She hosted her first Osmura night in July 2024 at the Baths in Hackney where she played alongside international and local artists. This week, her label Osmura saw the release of its first various artists EP “Lucid Haze” comprising of dubby, organic and percussive sounds across six European artists.With dubby, bassy and tribal sounds, her cozy mix is an invitation to a meditative dance.

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?

I started dj’ing in 2022 right after covid. It came from the desire to share my music discoveries to a wider audience. I first started playing at friends’ parties and slowly moved to the club scene. My first gig was at Dalson Den last year. Shortly after I met Cosi at work and we decided to create ‘Osmura’ to be able to share our passion for music with others. We first started as a podcast channel and then turned into a night series and record label.

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?

It was Agonis Live set at Monument festival this year. His mystical, hypnotic sound resonated so well in the Norwegian valley. You could imagine yourself surrounded by wolves and other mysterious creatures from the forest. It’s an experience that I will never forget, and which inspires me a lot.

3. Do you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert in the scene?

I would say that I’m both an introvert and an extrovert. I love meeting people from the scene during events and festivals, I find everyone’s experience very inspiring. But sometimes I feel that I could be networking more, it doesn’t feel as natural to me as it is for other people :)

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? Do you have any special remedies/ mental/physical prep/ places to go to? :)

When I prepare my music for a gig, I always try to imagine the space and the crowd. Playing music in a club is about communicating with people. I would often prepare a tracklist which I would adapt based on the mood and the audience.

The day of the gig, I would go for a morning run to release my stress and boost my confidence.

Shredding the concept of DJing down and remoulding it in her own provocative way, @maryloudj pushes the artform into bold, expressive forms that make simple beatmatching seem timid by comparison. The Berlin-based DJ is rightly proud of her approach, which she deems "unprofessional", drawing as it does on an intimate and wide-reaching relationship with sound unbound by the Tetris-block approach to DJing which so often goes along with sequenced electronic music. Drawing from a lifelong fascination with sounds from all parts of the world, and gifted with the creative elan to pull off wild shifts and unlikely juxtapositions, Marylou represents a growing culture of non-conformist DJing that proves there is so much more to say in pairing music than just keeping two beats in time. 

For this IOMix, which accompanies Joseph Francis' in-depth interview with Marylou, we've been gifted a recording of her Sunday afternoon set from pe:rsona 2024, an intimate festival hosted by @positiveeducationfest that took place in France. As the photos attest, it was a blistering July sun that beat down on the three hour session, and there's a sense of that clamouring, dry heat in Marylou's mesmerising, epic session. There's so much to experience and absorb - drums of all shapes and sizes, chants from unknown lands, extreme textures and haunting beauty, crushing bass and bittersweet swerves. You'll never hear another DJ do it quite like Marylou.

As a scorpio with pisces rising, both of my signs are water elements, which are often associated with emotional depth and intuition. For our second Truancy Sessions of 2025 we're excited to bring on Dj Wiggles, an artist who in the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music has managed to cultivate for herself a multifaceted breakthrough career that seamlessly blends DJing, event curation, her own label and a wonderful mix series to boot. Initially immersing herself in dance music whilst at university in Brighton, inspiration from a community of like-minded individuals and local events paved the way, before a move to London marked a significant evolution in her artistic development. Living near the now closed down Pickle Factory, the eclectic late-night sets of artists like Margaret Dygas, Jane Fitz, and Call Super, combined with the music of peers such as re:ni and Batu, helped shaped her distinctive approach to DJing and curation. Kicking off kinetic in 2019, the platform initially started out as a radio show on 1020 before branching out into a mix series on Soundcloud a little later. Since then, kinetic has flourished, hosting events across South London and establishing a regular home at the much beloved Ormside Projects.. With a tingling take on contemporary bass music and delicately left-field sub heavy sounds, previous guests have included Dub Athlete, upsammy, Jurango and Nono Gigsta to name just a few. More recently she inaugurated kinetic as a label with the release of 5RVZ's Trench EP, marking yet another milestone in pushing the platform forward. For this Truancy Sessions mix, Dj wiggles has crafted a deeply-considered trip that embraces emotional subtleties and textural transitions. Reading between the lines with tracks needing to find their placing in the electronic landscape, she's able to weave together tracks that resist easy categorisation, highlighting the beauty  of those in-between moments with a layer of unpredictability.

It was composed by Roberto B on 20 September 2024 in MAGIX (initial composition, recording, arrangement and mix) and Alex M on 22 May 2025 in Logic Pro using AKAI keyboard midi input controller (subsequent composition, recording, arrangement and mix), with a final mix and recording on 8 June 2025 by Roberto B (in MAGIX), and released here on SoundCloud this Sunday afternoon (in Europe), 15 June 2025, together with the release of the whole album to follow in minutes. We hope you'll enjoy our new concept album in its entirety.

The artwork cover for the album and all its tracks combines a painting by Roberto B of 1 June 2022 (in the bottom part) with design and implementation in PowerPoint and Mac OS Preview by Alex M of 17 November 2024 - in coordination and agreement between the two.
