Deine allererste Techno Platte?

Seit Beginn seines Seines spielt er Techno mit einem Händchen für das, was die Leute hören wollen, welches dennoch fernab von kommerzieller, elektronisch erzeugte Musik ist.
Als er 1997 begann seine ersten Schallplatten zu drehen, ahnte er wohl nicht wo er 17 Jahre später stehen, geschweige denn heimisch seien wird. So hatte auch er, wie viele andere, 2 Jahre DeeJay Lehrzeit, bis der erste Auftritt bevorstand, um dann mit Anlauf durchzustarten. Organisierte und wirkte bei einigen Untergrund Partys mit und spielte regional in sämtlichen Clubs, einschließlich den Panzerwerk Veranstaltungen in Ziesar und Verlorenwasser. Als 2005 der legendäre Club Tresor den ersten DeeJay Contest veranstaltete, trug T.A.G. sich ein, gewann ihn prompt, wurde 2007 Resident und machte damit einen großen Schritt auf das Sprungbrett seiner Karriere.
Mit dem Produzieren von eigenen Tracks fing er vor 10 Jahren an und veröffentlichte dann 2011 seine ersten Tracks in digitaler Form. Um musikalisch weiterhin Untergrund zu bleiben, entschied er seine Tracks vorrangig auf Vinyl zu pressen und hat derzeit 2 Remixes, eine eigene EP, sowie zwei geplante Releases in analoger Form.

Just when you thought you had figured out how Marquis Hawkes was going to play it with Houndstooth, he flips the table over to reveal his rougher side, scattering playing cards, drinks and finger-snacks all over the floor. 

The aptly-titled 'Raw Materials' sees Hawkes making a welcome return to the more primitive house rhythms for which he first became known for on his early work for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Highly influenced by house originators like Ron Hardy, Gene Hunt and Roy Davis Jr, 'Raw Materials' updates the form with modern production techniques whilst simultaneously preserving authenticity. 

The title track eases us gently into Hawkes' more edgy side, with dreamy vocals, dusty pads and deep 808 beats. The flip however takes no prisoners with two cuts of raw drum machine clatter flanked by strained vocal cuts on '‘Ave That', and primal analogue tones on 'Jerk U Later': deadly dance floor destroyers designed to drill straight to your core.

Tresor Records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. Three of the finest in this collection were contributed by Surgeon​; “Basictonalvocabulary”, “Balance” and “Force + Form” all originally came out on the Berlin institution between ‘97 and ‘99. 

Surgeon’s inimitable post-industrial sounds emanating from his British homeland found its fullest expression in this masterful trio of releases. Tresor Records have decided that its high time to give these seminal albums another airing and will present each in a staggered series of 2LP represses throughout the year, while releasing a special 3CD box on June 8th. 
All works have been re-mastered and cut by Matt Colton.
