Feral is an album by Ukrainian electronic composer Andrey Kiritchenko. Since the author is an independent scene apologist, he seeks to realize the hidden potential of various sound solutions by avoiding all kinds of templates, associative truisms and hackneyed formulas.This album is no exception, its filling with a recognizable synthesis of the sound designer, consists an ordered confusion of timbres and rhythm sections.

For the first time to an inexperienced listener it may seem that he is dealing with a series of random sound collisions, but, on the contrary, this illusion collapses when the receptors begin to track orderly series of patterns, refined discipline in this beautiful technogenic chaos. IDM undergoes mutations along with breakbeat patterns, imperceptibly shifts into the ambient plane and lures us into trip-hop passages. Feral is a trickster album, in any case it does not reveal all its cards to the last, even if you try to fill the listening process with independent meanings.

The essence of the release lies in the absence of meaning as such, this artistic technique reflects the familiar state of the world, drowning in information noise. This sound is what we are all about, with our obsessive and changeable states, with a relentless movement towards unattainable constructs and false ideals. Music in Feral remains accessible despite the individuality of the author's strokes.

Magical Nihilism

with »redsuperstructure«, robert lippok created a new foundation for his musical endeavors. now – 7 years later – this system properly comes to life on »applied autonomy«. the title of the new album is a clear indicator as to what the berlin-based producer has been up to during the last couple of years, both on a conceptual level as well as how he molds his ideas into tracks.

»applied autonomy« orchestrates a certain state of frantic standstill, which occurs once a structure is set. has this state been reached, the artist is free to focus on other equally important aspects, balancing the various shades, pushing ideas even further to really make them shine and blossom in their self-declared autonomy. the more light one lets in, the more layers become visible.

layers are key when it comes to understanding »applied autonomy«. big chunks of the material with which the album has been produced derive from sketches specifically made for a club performance.

rather than meticulously devising each and every detail, lippok focussed instead on recording as many fragments as possible in a short period of time, elements which he could later combine and layer on stage. based on this material and his experience experimenting with it in a live environment, the album slowly began to shape. an album culminating in a collaboration with klara lewis, with whom lippok spent 2 days at the EMS studios in stockholm, approaching the idea of autonomy from yet another angle. during the session, both musicians played and performed simultaneously, yet not explicitly together, lost in their own thoughts and ideas, only subconsciously taking in what the other one was coming up with. the result is »samtal«, 14 minutes of a constantly evolving state of poise, magically connecting all the dots lippok had already defined as »applied autonomy«.

the artwork for »applied autonomy« has been created by the berlin-based argentinian artist luca gutierrez. over the last couple of years, he has made a name for himself with his spectacular AV performances.

For our seventh instalment, Sote, or Ata Ebtekar, one of the most prominent current Iranian composers and sound artists has prepared a mix inspired by Unsound Krakow's mix, SOLIDARITY. This theme will explore how music unites, both on a sonic level via its presence in a physical space or online, as well as culturally and politically, through scenes, collectives and movements.

Sote has produced two of the most exciting albums from the last two years, Sacred Horror In Design (Opal Tapes, 2017) and the most recent Parallel Persia (Diagonal, 2019). Albums where he closely collaborates with traditional musicians such as Arash Bolouri and Behrouz Pashaei. Currently based in Tehran, he is one of the motors behind the vibrant and growing experimental art cultural scene in the country.

For this mix he explains that collaborating with talented musician friends such as Arash Bolouri who plays the santour on ‘Parallel Persia’, Pouya Damadi who plays the tar on ‘Parallel Persia’ and Behrouz Pashaei who played the setar on ‘Sacred Horror In Design’ has been critical to his electro-acoustic works in the past few years.                                                                                                         Since these mentioned electro-acoustic projects/albums have been about comradeship, he thought it would be interesting to go back about 10 years when I collaborated with the pianist and composer Mazdak Khamda who is a dear friend from his San Francisco Bay Area days: "And I decided to mix our album ‘Sonic Within’ with additional spectral editing. I feel like this work was overlooked by the media upon its publication and felt right to reintroduce it one more time in this shape and form. I greatly enjoy the balance between the acoustic and the synthetic bits on this material."

Робота "Під напругою" Тимофія Максименко являє собою серію партисипативних аудіо-перформансів, які протягом дії виставки відбуватимуться у дворах та арках різних районів Києва. У співпраці з чотирма українськими електронними музикантами, художник створюватиме серію партисипативних аудіо-перформансів. Саунд-імпровізації базуватимуться на звуках шумів електричних щитків, витяжок та каналізації. Цією роботою художник пропонує глядачеві уповільнитися та звернути увагу на місто як на живий організм, спробувати відчути його напругу та ритми, а також показати місто як простір для взаємодії, що об’єднує різні ком’юніті.

Andrey Kiritchenko is a person known among experimental music fans as author and contributor of various critically acclaimed projects, founder of Nexsound records, director of NextSound festival, producer who has contributed his significant share into the development of electronic music scene in Ukraine.

Born in 1976 in Kharkiv / Ukraine and started his musical career in 1991 as a singer / song-writer in a local rock band. Being involved mostly in experimental electronic and electroacoustic music for years, Andrey gains recognition among the musicians and followers of this style all over the world. His recent activities range from indie-pop to free-improvisation, from melodic electroacoustic music to experimental techno.

So far he collaborated with Francisco Lopez, Kim Cascone, Martin Brandlmayr(Radian, Trapist), Anla Courtis, Jason Kahn, Jeff Surak, Saralunden, the Moglass and others; remixed by Andreas Tilliander/Mokira, Frank Bretschneider, Mikael Stavostrand, Frans de Waard/GOEM, Brian Lavelle, Scanner, Marcus Maeder and others; under all aliases he released more than 40 albums on labels such as Staalplaat, SPEKK, Ad Noiseam, Nexsound, Zeromoon, Bip-Hop, Neo Ouija, etc.; in 2006 nominated by Qwartz Electronic Music Awards in categories Discovery and Most Promising Artist, awarded in category Discovery; in 2006-2007 curates Detali Zvuku international festival for experimental music and related visual arts in Kiev; in 2007 participates in Ukrainian exhibition on the 52th Venice Biennale; in 2008-2009 curates Ukrainian magazine for contemporary music – Gurkit; since 2000 – director of Nexsound records; since 2013 – director of NextSound, international festival for advanced music and digital arts.
