KS Selector Series

Staying in Europe, next on the selector series we have Amsterdam-based record collector @lemacp. We first met 2019 in Bogotá at the amazing @espaciokb, where he played a radio show as @kosmosmuziek, a duo with his buddy @laurensbekkers, who were at the time travelling through Colombia and Brazil. While I met Laurens again later that year for the KS #7 listening session in Amsterdam, Job was not able to come so I am well excited this worked out now! 

For his long-distance contribution to the selector series, he is serving a freshly prepared and slow-cooked mix, starting off with electronica and taking us through 90's boogie, synth-pop and house. Afternoon music at it's best!

Selector Series 07: LEMAC

For the next edition of the selector series we have invited @garagedisco from Brazil. They are a collective from São Paulo who started off throwing parties in Marlon's garage in 2018 and spreading the good vibes in bars and festivals. Talking to Vini and Gui over the phone about the mix the other day, they told me that all five selected the tracks on a recent trip together, which was then mixed together by Vini and Marlon.  

So what's on the menu today? They have prepared a selection of easy going and irresistibly funky 70's and 80's Brazilian disco and Latin world music, also featuring a recently released edit by Vini. Get your Caipirinha ready, best afternoon vibes coming your way!

Selector Series 08: GARAGE DISCO

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, we are excited to welcome @cornelius_malware for the ninth edition of the selector series. He is part of @discosgraves, a collective and label with a strong audio-visual focus, releasing contemporary electronic music and edits beefing up gems from the past. Cornelius is creator of the label’s own Longboard Cruise edit series, capturing slow life during the hot summer months of coastal Lima. Due to perfect compatibility with the breezy afternoon vibes we curate at KS, we asked him to record a mix to accompany the recent release of the series’ second edition. 

We are glad he accepted - the outcome is a fantastic selection of his personal favourites, taking us on a trip through 80’s funk, boogie, synth-pop and obscure fusions thereof, including previously released and also unreleased material. This set is road trip-approved or alternatively highly recommended for simmering in the tropical sun.

Selector Series 09: CORNELIUS

Fresssssssssh new podcast up! For the 10th edition of the selector series we are well excited to have Leipzig-based music connoisseur and selector Albertus Heat onboard (@mowolff). He has released own house productions on labels such as @big-bait-records and @petra-digital with his alias Momo Arigato and recently  embarked with fellow diggers on the project @communityvibes - full support!

On today's menu we have one hour of musical delicatesse, taking you through the soundscapes of 80's and early 90's downtempo, euro-house, and synth-pop with this balearic adult movie-vibe throughout. Rrrrriccooooooo!

Selector Series 10: ALBERTUS HEAT

For the 11th installation of the selector series we have something super special for you! Founder of the legendary Lima-based party Discofobia, Disco heavy-weight and good friend @prolsound returned to his native home turfs a while ago and took the time to seep through dusty records across Las Palma's stores and conducted further in-depth investigations for this. With his secret not-so-secret alias "El  Barbón de la Isla" he recorded a mixtape suitable for the KS slow-flung afternoon vibes, yet full of danceable and forgotten Spanish gems, encompassing 80's heartbreaker synth-pop, euro-house rap variants, andalusian-acid pop, and tortilla-boogie (to the best of my knowledge). A firm editor's pick for sure, enjoy with ice-cold Tr*pical!

Selector Series 11: EL BARBÓN DE LA ISLA

For the launch of the second season of the Selector Series, we are well excited to welcome @Damonji from Italy! He is a Turin-based selector and collector of 70s and 80s records from Africa, the Carribean and Brazil. He hosts the afro music-centered radio show "Diggin' South" on @rblmedia and curates the column "Quilombo" on Voolcano Mag. In his vinyl-only mix for KS that came fresssshh out of the oven, he is showcasing carefully curated records from one year of musical discovery, sending you on a journey through dreamy guitars and lo-fi synthesizers, combining Congolese rumba, African soukous, and mellow Zouk from Guadalupe. New KS territory for sure! Enjoy!

Selector Series 12: DAMONJI

The next contribution to our Selector Series is by @cecilia-yzarra, a selector originally from Peru but residing in São Paulo for the last 10 years. She is a collector of a diverse Latin American music on vinyl, has her own party @_fiebreenlaselva and is part of the female music collectives @qgdasminadjs and @uhmanas.tv. In anticipation of our upcoming event, she has prepared an electic selection of music, bringing the heat from Brazil and perfectly matching the KS afternoon terrace vibes. Enjoy!

Selector Series 13: DJ CECYZA

Starting fresh into the New Year and also Peru's summer season, we are beyond excited to present you a new chapter of the selector series, compiled by no one else than the mysterious Gramigna! He is a record collector and DJ from Sicily (that's all we know) with an obsession for everything orbiting around Italo pop and disco, that can be witnessed through an endless stream of new digs and rare records showcased on his instagram channel. 

For our selector series, he has made a special selection of slower and obscure, mostly 70s italian pop and soft rock that is well suitable for your summer terrace vibes. Get your Negroni ready and press play!

Selector Series 14: GRAMIGNA

New episode of the selector series up! This time we (finally*) welcome vinyl fanatic and selector La Chinoise aka @larutadelvinilo aka Sandy from Lima. Besides collecting vinyl, she is a blogger and very involved in the local scene, you can find her on vinyl fairs, in podium discussions and leading workshops - following the route of the vinyl. She has already been a regular invite to our events and we finally managed to record this mix in Axel's studio last December, breaking the spell of technical mishaps during previous attempts of live-recordings. 

We asked Sandy for a selection to resemble the typical KS afternoon vibes and it turned out just as we imagined! An eclectic collage of downtempo, synth-pop and disco from different parts of the world, intertwined with some local nuggets from Peru! Perfect to enjoy with a cold drink in scouringly hot Lima!

Selector Series 15: LA CHINOISE

We are back with a brand new edition of the KS selector series, this time we have The Funk Orchestra on board. He is a DJ and vinyl collector from Baja California, Mexico, and co-founder of the collective Disco Mondo that we have already been following for some time. 

We asked him for an afternoon-suitable mix with breezy terrace vibes and he delivered spot on! Sit back and enjoy this all-round funky affair with an eclectic selection of downtempo, afro and latin beats, disco and house sounds, guaranteed to get you moving rather sooner than later.

Selector Series 16: THE FUNK ORCHESTRA

Fresh from the oven, we are excited to present you the latest mix of our selector series! This time we have Yuquita, a Peruvian selector based in Paris forming part of the collective Planète Chatouille, who run their own parties and organize micro-festivals in amazing locations.  

In his current mix, he made a blissfull selection ranging from ambient, experimental new age, to synthpop, funk/soul, downtempo and more. Sounds wild, but blends together insanely well and keeps perfect faith with our afternoon vibes!

Selector Series 17: YUQUITA

In anticipation for his upcoming visit to Lima and his appearance at our next matinée on Saturday 8th of July, we have the immense pleasure to welcome Harari for the next episode of our selector series. 

Harari is a music collector from Buenos Aires and one of the two curators of 'Síntesis Moderna' - a compilation of obscure and mostly synth-laden gems released on Soundway Records in 2022 that we enjoyed quite a lot. Harari draws on ample experience as a dj and selector, seeing him also frequenting booths in Europe. In his home country Argentina he steers the party Highlife. 

For the current mix of the selector series, Harari took a deep dive into his record collection and prepared a trip across a wide spectrum of sounds, from Argentinian and Brazilian Jazz, Funk and World music from the 70s followed by a more electronic theme covering 80s and 90s sound from Europe and some contemporary releases, guaranteed to get you moving!

Selector Series 18: HARARI

Next up in the selector series we have the pleasure to host Valerio and Gio from Italy who together make up the duo Raregems. The couple are longtime record diggers and collectors and formed the project "Raregems" in 2021, aiming to unearth forgotten records from Italy and around the world. They also run a record store under the same name, a source and supplier of the finest goodies around. They wake up at dawn looking for records in flea markets, participate in record fairs around Europe both as sellers and selectors. As DJs they play at listening bars around Europe and curate a monthly program on Radio Raheem in Milan. For the current mix they have made an afternoon-compatible and cocktail-ready selection of italo disco and obscure European boogie of the 80s, and as expected, showcase a couple of rare grooves from under the radar. Selector Series 19: RAREGEMS

Next episode of the selector series is landing, this time with @lucaandreozzi . Luca is an Italian musician and selector currently based in London, who contacted us with the proposition of compiling a mix for our series. We are more than happy that we accepted as he has prepared a breezy and afternoon-suitable selection perfectly matching the KS vibes. In his mix, he covers rare Italian 70s soundtracks, obscure disco and some other oddballs and jams. Get your Negroni ready and press play!

Selector Series 20: LUCA ANDREOZZI

To get you in the mood for our next matinée, we are excited to present you a vinyl-only mix from Passion Boy who will be our main invite flying in from Bogotá for our next show on Saturday 18th of November in Lima.

Passion Boy aka Iván Villacob, has developed a unique taste in music influenced by folkloric sounds during his earlier life in the Caribbean coast of Colombia and electronic artists touring the island of Puerto Rico in the 2000s. Arriving to the Colombian capital Bogotá, his search started for new music and sounds, crossing paths and influenced by local Djs, producer and curators such as Javier Kruz, Sergio Iglesias, and Mansvr. Nowadays he is a firm favorite of the local scene in Bogotá, frequenting clubs and bars such as Video Club, Kaputt, Paradiscos, and Calle 9.

For the this edition of the selector series, Passion Boy crafted a vinyl-only mix with an upbeat selection spanning across the styles of mostly 80s synth pop, boogie, and italo - giving us a fine taste of what to expect during his upcoming debut in Lima.

Selector Series 21: PASSION BOY

Next up in the selector series we are very excited to host Monodominical straight from France. He is a seasoned record digger with mixes airing on many of our favourite platforms, owner of "le discobar" a small, well curated and super fun music bar (first-hand confirmed by axel h who had the pleasure to play an extended vinyl-only set there last year), as well as running his own party series "Confetti" with stellar lineups as to expect.

Soo, what's in the bag for the current mix then? We asked Gautier to match the vibes we cultivate at KS and we were not disappointed! Prepare for a mix full of under-the-radar gems from the past that is well suited for warm and sunny afternoons on your favourite terrace, with a melange of slow-flung canzoni italiane, latin soul-funk-samba crossovers, and of course your dose of more upbeat mysterious and weirdo disco we love so much! Selector Series 23: MONODOMINICAL

Excited to present the next installation of our selector series, this time straight from Lima, Peru. "El Hit de la Medianoche" is a project that aims to recover the Peruvian musical legacy, collecting treasures across different regions in Peru since 2000, restoring records, digitalizing tracks and archiving hits, and doing pirate FM radio presentations. 

For this episode, the mystery mind behind "Hit de la Medianoche" made a deep dig into his collection and has dusted of a vinyl-only selection of danceable records, preparing a medley-style mix of previously unheard psych funk, soul, disco, and different styles and crossovers of latin music across different decades from Peru, called "El Paraíso del Boogie". Selector Series 22: EL HIT DE LA MEDIANOCHE

Next episode of the selector series has arrived, this time hailing from Austria with @discoaldente . He is a record collector from Vienna with a focus on obscure Italo Disco and, besides running his own podcast series on soundcloud, has also released many of his mixes on your favourite music outlets. He contacted us for a mix and we were instantly on board, with the the assignment, as always, on the slower, later summer afternoon, garden-suitable selection for the original KS vibes!

We are more than excited that he hit right on target, delivering an hour full of warm tropical feel-good italo with a strong dose of steel drums, to lighten up your 'Lima la gris' or soundtrack your pool session, wherever you are. His set ranges from reggae-esque italo, cheesy Euro disco, through more synth-heavy, and exotic German Italo gems we really like, culminating with a fun cover of an all-time classic that can't get more summery. Selector Series 24: DISCO AL DENTE

New month, new episode of our selector series - this time hailing from Cologne we welcome Earl Orlog! He is one of the most avid all-around record collectors we know, unearthing the most peculiar tracks from around the world which he showcases on his Youtube channel. Besides this, he releases own tracks, edits, and remixes that are worth checking out! 

Needless to say we were excited for this one and we were not disappointed! Let Earl take you on a trip starting off a sun-kissed mediterranean island, through the mysterious streets of Cairo, to some sweaty underground venue in NYC. This podcast is a wild musical potpourri full of novelty digs of different styles, genres, and eras - tune in, sit back, and enjoy!

Selector Series 25: EARL ORLOG

We are up and running with another episode of our selector series. This time we are excited to present a mix by Spöki, who is a music and vinyl lover from Germany and currently based in Berlin. Besides collecting wax with a faible for the Italian side of things, she is frequently seen with heavy baggage touring across Germany to showcase the latest additions to her collection. 

For this mix she prepared a moody Italo-esque and Euro-boogie selection, highly melodic and showcasing the breadth of sweet / weird / heavy synth sounds, vinyl-only of course. Straight from Berlin with a touch of Winter sentimentality as she says - well, we think it's super fresh and equally danceable poolsides in the Tropics! Enjoy! @sp-ki
