INDEX:Records alum vase (aka Downstairs People; games) and label-head Conna Haraway team up as ‘Department’ to deliver a two-track mini-epic of sprawling brooding soundscapes and future-facing rhythms, via finely chiseled abstract outbursts and widescreen cinematic depth of field. (Additional live instrumentation comes courtesy of Glasgow-based staev, and INDEX:Rec affiliate MCRD supplies intuition suggestions.)

Starting off as a proper serene slice of beatless musing, 'Cogent' slowly hatches into a rhythmic shape-shifter combining the immersive power of elastic sound membranes with the incisiveness of post-industrial breaks, leaning towards IDM-oid fractals and signature UK bass menace.

All in vaporous piano chords (cue: staev), heavily dubbed-out layers and FX-coated emotion, 'Recovery' beckons us onto the path of soulful elation with its poignant melange of brittle stabs and skittish drum patterns gone astray. Dark and solar at once, the track blends cavernous entrancement with verbed-out RnB samples and percussive trenchant on a steely, broken techno tip.

Ethereal like a mirage yet daunting as the four elements boiling up a storm, Department's debut two-tracker is an elusive piece of sewn-together sketches exuding the sheer magnitude of a master painting in sound.

Be With Records and Emotional Rescue team up to present a special release of US jazz vocal group Rare Silk and their cult song, Storm. 

A diggers cut for many years, more recently it's become an algorithm "hit". Presented here as a stand-alone limited 10" release, the song is backed by a spellbinding echo-drenched remix by New York's exemplary electronic sonic explorer, Arp. 

Originally formed when sisters MaryLynn and Gaile Gillaspie met Marquerite Juenemann in southern California in the late '70s, with the arrival of Todd Buffa the trio quickly expanded to a four-part harmony vocal group. Signed to Polydor, they rose to prominence over the ensuing decade with the release of three albums that gained them multiple Grammy nominations. 

Taken from their 1985 album American Eyes, Storm is based on a Stanley Turrentine song of the same name, from his 1971 album Salt Song. With additional vocals written by MaryLynn, as with much of their music -underpinned as it is by an otherworldly exotica - the artisanal, crafted care of the instrumental and vocal arrangements, featuring lush, rich phrasing, is evident in their exquisite reading of the song. 

When deciding how best of present the song it seemed right to ask a favourite of both labels. Having appeared on Emotional Response in 2017/18, Alexis Georgopoulos returned to his Arp project with last years' much-heralded Zebra album on Mexican Summer. Stripping out the vocals, the remaining instrumental is rearranged, rebuilt and then soaked in heavy tape echo. The result is a discerning dub to act as the perfect accompaniment.

Description / Infos

We are glad to present you ‘Acts of Intimacy’, a 6 track compilation maxi (vinyl + digital), booklet, and large format prints release. Featuring Paulie Jan, Refracted, Asfa, Joseph, Kanthor and Vâyu, the creative process of each artist on the vinyl was guided by our multidisciplinary approach for this compilation. 

The booklet is made of Benoît Lefeuvre micro experiments photos shots taken trough a microscope lens, and Léa Moret-Bailly’s poem. We gave the artists a carte blanche around these artistic elements, to let them compose a musical creation in their very intimate way. 

‘Acts of Intimacy’ comes in a limited press of 200 numbered vinyls, 100 booklets, and 10 unique framed photo prints on fine art paper.

Quand elle est aux platines, @tovankao a énormément de choses à vous dire. Elle raconte des histoires à travers ses mixes qu’elle construit avec une forme de mélancolie festive. Habituée des clubs sombres, To Van fait ses premières armes à Paris puis à Londres où elle s’installe un an avant de revenir. 
Mais c’est notamment sur les ondes de Rinse France, qu’elle a pu dévoiler l'étendue de ces influences, allant de la techno la plus stricte à la UK bass la plus futuriste tout en faisant de brillants détours acid house. 

Elle s’est récemment illustrée auprès du collectif La Créole, une soirée qui vise à promouvoir la liberté des êtres et des corps à travers la danse.
Nouvellement manageuse de Sunareht @sunareht(Paradoxe club), cette passionnée de mode pense que la musique ne se limite pas au son mais à tout ce qui l’entoure et c’est ce qu’elle provoque inévitablement quand elle prend le contrôle du dancefloor.
