I've had some version of a home studio since I was 17. My very first setup was a Fostex X-15 cassette 4-Track (HS graduation present) in my parent's garage. When I was an active songwriter in my early years in Nashville, I would record each song as soon as it was "finished". I did a few sessions at real studios with real musicians, but mostly I would document a song as soon as I had written it on whatever recording format I had at the house, however inferior. Below is a collection of those songs. A few of them I like a lot. Some of them I like a little. Many of them are embarrassing which is why I'm sharing them. Why, you might ask, am I sharing songs that make me cringe, recoil, and blush with embarrassment? Because in my experience the songs I like the most are almost never the songs others like the most. A song that makes me want to crawl under a rock and pray for asteroids will invariably be the one a dear friend or relative will declare is the best thing I've ever written. Humans are incomprehensible.
