Back In 2018 I was DJ’ing in Liverpool as part of the annual ‘Sound City’ festival. After my set, a group of enthusiastic people approached me and congratulated me and wondered if I’d heard of Cavendish Music, as that’s who they work for. Being a bit of a record digger, I of course knew of the amazing Cavendish Series, from the late 60’s to the early 70’s, as well as the Boosey & Hawkes albums.
One of the cavendish crew, passed me his card and said to get in touch if I was ever around the Kings Cross region of London, to have a hunt into their vaults and see if anything came to fruition
So that’s what I did!
Ever since, my recent projects (Forty Five LP, 2020 Donuts LP & Figure Of Speech LP) have all contained Cavendish/Boosey samples, and the Cavendish team have been a joy to work with.
Consequently, I wanted to create a tribute by making a full record of material using the incredible vintage sound sources from their library of music, whilst putting my Boca 45 spin onto them from my studio in Boogie Down Bristol.

Tori Amos vs Hijack - Professional Badman

Finally back after a several-week hiatus due to my move. Definitely some hard losses these past weeks, with absolute legends Pharoah Sanders and Ramsey Lewis passing away. Ramsey Lewis's records were some of the first jazz and funk records I purchased, and I highly recommend his catalog - it's still pretty affordable, and just as beautiful and funky as many of the "rare" and pricey records from other artists. Pharoah Sanders' records are getting a bit more pricey these days, but most are still attainable - and there are some good represses out there. Absolutely beautiful music. Rest in Power to both these legends, I'm eternally grateful for what they brought to all of us.

I tried to intersperse some interview clips of each of them within this mix, which I did live on Twitch a few days ago.

I'm so happy I found thiz tape!! What you hear here iz exactly what wuz going on in Cleveland (South Lorian)Ohio. Thiz iz a Treacherous 3 party @ Disco Fever in NY from 1981'. Thiz remind'z me so much of Lincoln Park Ballroom in South Lorain & tha block partiez & the Puerto Rican Day Party in Oakwood Park with battle of tha DJ'z.
Sorry 4 going on that South Lorain tangent... but 4-realz... thiz iz tha way we got down.
Anyhow, thiz iz from NYC just 2 tha right of Cleveland... So there wuz a lot of similarities... but all tha rap & West End Records came out of NYC 100%!!! Thiz tape capturez a true special moment in NYC muzikal history.
I know ya gonna dig thiz!!!
