Italian producer Ruben Mandolini lands on Great Stuff Recordings with a tasty 3-tracker, after having made appearances on Toolroom Trax, Riva Starr&#8217;s Snatch! Records and Mario Piu&#8217;s Fahrenheit Recordings. Channelling his country&#8217;s techno heritage, he&#8217;s come up with an excellent little collection.

Freaky Deaky is drenched in droning, atonal bass and super-snappy beats, moodily stomping its way through trippy vocal snippets and mind-bending FX on its way to a huge breakdown and drop combo. Carefully examine the layers of murkiness and you&#8217;ll find some low end funk there too.

Inside Me takes that tinge of funk and pushes into the track&#8217;s rhythm, discordant synth and percussive sounds punctuating the groove in infectious fashion as some seriously low slung bass throbs away. Super-sized breakdowns provide respite and contrast and help to complete a succinct but highly effective DJ weapon.

Orange County rounds off with more urgency and heavy beats, pounding the listener into submission with its punchy swagger. Clever little fills and phat drum programming sass things up, and the result is pure dancefloor gold with a brilliantly swung groove.

Without a doubt one of our favourite producers that have emerged in the beginning of the 21th century and is still on top of their game in terms of release frequency and succes, is Mason. One of the reasons of their succes is their wide range of productions without ever losing the love for infectious thick grooving house. As is the case with their latest work: ‘Affected’.

The classy deft percussion compliment the tight funky bassriff, while the soulfull vocal sings a lesson we all can learn something from: 'Don't let em get a hold of you'. All combined this stripped-back house groover has the elements to develop itself as a remarkable track clubbers will still be singing the day after.

Completing the package Kastle, Way Back and Turbo Turbo give the original the twist to fit in even more DJ sets.

The Adventures of Soul Clap Episode 52 was originally posted May 20th, 2009.

Sometimes the quality of talent that we have at our weekly Wednesday party, Midweek Techno, just BLOWS me away. Like does Boston even realize the resource they have right under their NOSES??? Doubtful, but alas, we keep on truckin.

Take for example a few months back when we PROUDLY presented the extraordinary talents of the young producer/live performer Nicholas Jaar. At only 19 years old (a FRESHMAN at Brown University) this young French transplant and musical prodigy has created quite a stir with releases for the likes of Wolf + Lamb and AirDrop Records and now on his own imprint, Clown and Sunset.

Iâ€™ve always been a bit iffy about Ableton sets, quite often it seems like the energy just isnt there. Nicolas Jaarâ€™s performance however, is quite the contrary, his music weaves together like the gils of a french accordion, taking us all over the musical spectrum, way beyond simply DANCE music. Melodies, moods, emotions, seems like skyâ€™s the limit for young Nico.

Just a few more tidbits: Seth Troxlerâ€™s remix of Nicolas Jaar â€œThe Studentâ€ was the flipside to the recent deep bomb â€œAphrika EPâ€ that seems to be getting canned everywhere. Donâ€™t sleep just cuz it doesnâ€™t feature The Angelizer. Also, Nico is in cahoots with fellow Parisian Le Loup (performing at Midweek Techno June 3rd), who has also just released digitally the â€œSee Line Epâ€ on Wolf + Lamb, again with a remix of â€œThe Studentâ€ and another titled â€œNicoâ€™s Bath Danceâ€ which I imagine was created by both of these two yoots.

This the result of 2 sessions at a writerscamp; The Voyagers worked with Haris to get the nice break with amazing vocals. And I worked with The Voyagers on the catchy groovy drop. Really happy with this track, the drop melody might be the one of the most catchy melody's I ever wrote and I love the fresh input by The Voyagers. And these vocals by '95 buddy Haris are  just amazing! Make sure to follow these guys, because you will definitely hear more awesome stuff from them in the future :)

shortly after my first gig at Tresor on a wednesday night alongside Doug W N in 1999 I became one of the regulars for their wednesdays Bonito House Club parties.
I played countless gigs there almost exclusively on wednesdays, which taught me a lot about playing much more underground than I usually did. I played two of the 14(?)closing nights one back 2 back with Dixon and the other with Paul van Dyk and then I played the opening night at the new venue alongside Sven Väth.
Tresor always felt like home to me, so enjoy this Tresor session from January 2015...

The Upgrade (Mixtape for Laid Back Radio)

One of the UK's most established and consistent deep house producers, Jimpster, is due to drop his eagerly anticipated Porchlight And Rockingchairs LP on 20th May 2013. His first studio album in six years sees him continue where he left off with the 2006 masterpiece Amour by taking the blueprint of House music and infusing it with an attention to detail and musicality often lacking in much of today's more disposable dance music.

Here we present you two of the LP’s more floor-friendly moments in the form of Rollergirl and Hold My Hand on a lovely warm 10” slab of vinyl. Both tracks show off Jimpster’s innate talent for dubbed out, late-night deep house but with a rawer, edgier sound than we’ve come to expect from him, and this can only be a good thing. Rollergirl goes heavier with rattling claps and distinct, hooky synth line which drives the track and brings an intensity heightened further by the growling sub bass. Hold My Hand has a lighter vibe with gentle vocals spinning around whilst the arrangement unfolds and builds perfectly throughout the track.
