Three years ago, we called Suzi Ecto “an expansive piece of art” in which Call Super created a “sonic world inspired and shaped by … club music”. Since his debut album, he’s released half a dozen 12”s, also going by Ondo Fudd and Elmo Crumb as well as sharing one record with Shanti Celeste and collaborating on another with Beatrice Dillon. And then there’s the small matter of his Fabric CD, which raced between music from friends and contemporaries, long-standing influences and his own productions. Earlier this month he released Suzi Ecto’s follow-up, Arpo, on Houndstooth – a record that feels more insular than its predecessor, yet comfortably so. Once again Call Super trades in beautifully rendered scenes embellished by the virtuoso clarinet of his father, David Seaton. Ideas are teased before they return fully expanded, a “journey” of a record that folds back in on itself. If we were the types to make lists you can be sure it’d be near the top for this year.

Having started the year with the aforementioned Fabric mix, he’s finishing 2017 with the latest entry to our series of Truancy Volumes. An 85-minute mix, it covers extensive ground. Not only does it run through strands of house and techno like your mind runs through rooms in a dream, it features Call Super at his most playful, exercising fast cuts, volume chops and breathtaking acapella transitions. You can tell that he’s enjoying every minute.

Christmas is here! We hope you have a lovely one and, to help make it a musically memorable time, we’re playing Santa and will be delivering a couple of extra special mixes today and next week. Ben UFO is someone very close to everything we do here at Dekmantel. His taste is broad and well informed, and his rare skill in the DJ booth is matched only by his endless quest for exciting new sounds to play. In that regard he embodies our outlook perfectly: he is someone who unearths a previously unknown gem as often as he breaks a red hot new record. His sets have been a key feature of Dekmantel parties around the world and, for us, he is one of the very best DJs out there. 

In basic terms, this is a deep mid-tempo house and techno mix. But the reality is that it unfolds with such an intriguing narrative that it feels like so much more. The mixing is so smooth you barely notice where one track ends and another starts. Instead, without realising, you find the atmosphere constantly changes, taking you from sci-fi machine grooves to muggy bumping techno, from celestial and hallucanogenic synth lines to creepy meandering riffs that encourage you to follow them into the unknown. It’s a mix that places you at the heart of a smoky dance floor, but is one that offers as much of a cerebral thrill as a visceral one. What’s more, it somehow feels like only half of the story.

During the recent years, Terence Fixmer kept on being prolific by producing and releasing his music output on well esteemed quality labels such as Ostgut Ton, Novamute, Jealous God and recently on Aufnahme+Wiedergabe. Following a constant workflow, Fixmer decided it is now time to restart his label Planete Rouge which he launched back in 1998 already but has always been irregular in terms of releases. The label will relaunch after a 4-year hiatus with his new 12”.

Terence Fixmer’s ‘Oppression’ EP is a great resume of his unique sound design signature, delivering a collection of four energetic tracks that speaks to the soul.

On top of it, as an homage to one of his all time favourite tracks of ‘The Normal / Warm Leatherette’ from 1978, Fixmer decided to rewrite this 40 year old tune from Daniel Miller as a a personal pleasure and fun.
By using as well the Mini Korg 700 S Terence Fixmer recreated nearly the original sound, keeping a track that is loyal to his own sound as well as its original spirit.

"Berceuse Heroique @kemal187 est un label londonien créé en 2013 et géré par Gizmo aka KEMAΛ / Kemal. Le patronyme fait référence à une pièce musicale composée par Debussy et le logo tiré d'un bouquin à propos du percussionniste de Neu, dans tout les cas peut-être que cela signifie quelque chose ou peut-être que cela ne veut rien dire du tout.

« Les membres de la classe ouvrière ne sont pas censés s’amuser à faire de l’art, on est donc voué à l’échec. Ce label ne grossira pas, on fera des disques jusqu’à ce qu’on n’ait plus de fric. »

Si KEMAΛ n’est pas du style à s’épancher sur sa vie, ses envies, ses projets... il ne reste donc plus que le concret : les disques et l’esthétique. KEMAΛ ne sort que du vinyle (300 exemplaires par sortie), quasi jamais repressés. Le design comme les pochettes témoignent d’une agressivité militante, d’une défiance anarcho-libertaire à l’adresse d’un ordre établi et verrouillé politiquement. Les photos ronéotées servant d’artwork, tirées des plus sales pages de l’Histoire, sont juxtaposées à des citations lourdes de sens, extraites pour la plupart d’auteurs d’hier et de journaux d’aujourd’hui.

Avec le temps le label s'est adouci, l’orientation musicale est multiple, la charte graphique plus soignée. Proche dans la démarche des labels : The Trilogy Tapes, Opal Tapes, PAN ou encore L.I.E.S. Les sonorités professées s’égrainent des faisceaux les plus bruitistes de la musique électronique contemporaine – avec des producteurs tel que Ekman, Vereker, Gesloten Cirkel, Koehler, Breaker 1 2 - en passant par des édits disco signés Duster Valentine, Jamal Moss, Japan Blues, Mori-Ra - des armes de dub et dubstep massives avec des pionniers du genre Loefah, Jay Glass Dubs, Beneath, Pinch - mais aussi une infinité de production futuristes et hybrides avec Hodge, Ossia, Don't DJ - ainsi qu'une techno martiale ou autres sonorités tribales fait par Black Merlin, Morah, Zov Zov et bien d'autres."
