This song means a lot to me as I recently came out as non-binary myself and it really has changed my life. The wonderful people I have met online in the non-binary community have helped me through some difficult times as I go through this process with everyone in my life. 

Take the time to listen, to share, to connect with someone in some cases before it's too late.  

Take the time to understand us we are valid, we are human, and here to stay.

This isn't just about a song, a label, ect. Non-binary is a movement, a shared universal energy, understanding, and way of life.

Founded in 2021, Dark Heaven is a Chicago based event company and collective focused on curating
immersive experiences with underground electronic artists, installation/visual artists, and queer
performance artists. With bookings from the likes of Matrixxman, Nikki Nair, Overland, Ariel Zetina, Sard,
Beau Wanzer, and kryptogram, Dark Heaven thrives in DIY spaces but has also made rounds in the club
circuit, most recently at Smartbar and Podlasie Club. In late 2022, co-founder and artist Vorp, with the help
of collective partner follidh, began curating La Chasse, translating to “the hunt” in French, launching Dark
Heaven as a record label with a various artist compilation album.
With the ‘La Chasse’ compilation the Dark Heaven imprint has pieced together a broad spectrum of sonic
influences. Across nineteen tracks the collection traverses through Electro, Jungle, Techno, Bass,
Microhouse and Experimental Electronica. Tracks like D.Strange’s ‘Eros’, DVS NME’s ‘Herr Elektromotoren’
and Francois Dillinger’s ‘Persist To Resist’ employ classic Electro tropes with crisp drums, cinematic synth
textures and gnarly bass lines. IVVY’s ‘Unstable’, Lokua’s ‘Keep It Going’, PV5000’s ‘DJ Do Baile’ and COMMON
GROUND’s ‘User Frndly’ shift the focus over to raw techno with high octane rhythms, and intricately
intertwined synth work.
Double Dipp’s ‘Shock Me’, Ommen’s ‘a few things wrong with me’, ‘Detroit Receiving’ by Gino and Clarissa’s
‘An Ode To Nothing’ embraces a deeper, more reduced house aesthetic with a focus on low-slung 4/4 drums
and textural atmospherics. Flex Blur also turns in a straight jungle workout driven by amen breaks and
dreamy pads with ‘Doute’, KEEFE lays down breaks tinged ‘Big Donk Energy’ and Club Drippy turns in a murky
slice of electronica with ‘Crashed’. The likes of Jace Inman, Linquency, Mafgar, rising star of Miami Sel.6 and
Vorp then diverge into experimental realms with their contributions, each employing intricately
programmed, off-kilter rhythms, and expertly crafted sound design for a truly unique listening experience.

Today, unfortunately, American citizens against their better judgment, voted to elect Trump as our president. Further, this event, insultingly, took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day—a day meant to honor a man who championed equality and justice for black Americans. To see the rise of Trump, flanked by his band of crony tech-bros—Zuckerberg, Bezos, and Musk—on such a day feels like a cruel mockery of the progress Dr. King fought for. 

Together, this American oligarchy promotes a reality where hate speech masquerades as "free speech" and the myth of meritocracy props up cis-straight-white-males and affluent individuals (including women indoctrinated to uphold this narrative) above everyone else. Have you watched Star Wars? Have you read “A Handmaids Tail”? They parade this so-called "golden age" while leading our democracy into decay. 

In this unsettling time, I felt compelled to revisit the song "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode. This pop song is a critique of global capitalism and highlights the terrors of a system that prioritizes profit and power over humanity.

“Confidence taken in / By a suntan and a grin.”

When Depeche Mode wrote this lyric, they were describing a businessman on vacation—a man who, let’s be real, doesn’t truly have to work. He can travel the world — relax on the beach. Today, this image eerily mirrors the embodiment of Trump and his ilk.

“The grabbing hands grab all they can / All for themselves, after all.

It’s a competitive world”

(but only for those without the wealth to pay their way to the top).

“Everything counts in large amounts.”

These "large amounts" could represent our social capital or the hard-earned money drained from everyday Americans by the billionaire class—an illness in our democracy. These financially privilieged individuals should pay the same taxes as everyone else, yet they hoard wealth at the expense of society.

As Klypi, a persona I embody, I want to channel the hypocrisy I witness and confront the evils plaguing our reality. Through this character, I hope to amplify a voice of resistance and rally those who dream of a more egalitarian, open-minded, and accepting world.

Through fiction, through play, and through my love of art, I plan to do this.
