John Cala makes a striking debut on Henri Bergmann’s Automatik imprint with Sleep, a two-track EP that cements his status as one of the most promising new names in house and techno. With recent releases on respected labels like Siamese, Truesoul, and When Stars Align, Cala continues to carve out a sound that’s both driving and emotionally resonant. The title track, ”Sleep”, is a rhythmic club record powered by an African vocal, while “Afterparty”, a collaboration with Rivellino, takes an electrifying turn. Its pulsating synths and thunderous energy captures the chaos and euphoria of late-night dance floors. With support from tastemakers including Adriatique, CamelPhat, and Solomun, John Cala’s soundscapes are quickly resonating with global audiences.

XAKK is back with its first collaborative release of the year, courtesy of Swedish producers Bjorn Fogelberg and John Keding. Both artists have been active in the progressive house and electronic music scenes for decades, with recent solo and joint releases on labels such as Dissident, RKP, ICONYC, Freegrant, Krafted, Hexagonal, and more.

Their new EP, Stellar, delivers three versions of the title track, each offering a slightly different take on the deeper side of progressive house.

The Original Mix features a steady, driving groove, rumbling low-end, and spacious pads. Airy stabs and restrained melodic elements help create a hypnotic atmosphere throughout the track.

The Sunset Remix moves into darker territory, adding more weight with deeper pads, dissonant stabs, and menacing yet warm synth swells.

Finally, the Sunrise Remix brings more energy and melodic variation while maintaining the depth and drive of both the original and the Sunset mix.

Freezing winters, packed after-hours, and a scene that thrives just outside the spotlight is Montreal’s rhythm. This VA draws from that energy.

Guy Laliberté invited a handful of local artists reworking Cirque du Soleil in their own language: raw, stripped-back, and built for the dance floor.

Each remix brings something different to the table, but they’re united by a shared sense of restraint. The grooves are tight, and the low-end does most of the talking. You’ll recognize the DNA of the originals, but the context is new.

Hicky & Kalo’s take on Temperatio stands out for its deep emotional pull — hypnotic yet understated, it channels the track’s theatrical origins into something more intimate and meditative, perfectly tuned for the early hours.

This VA is about grounding Cirque du Soleil in the pulse of the city. In studios, on dark floors, through sound systems that favor pressure over perfection. It’s a subtle, thoughtful collection that reflects where Montreal is at right now.

As part of Frooogs Records’ ongoing remix series, the Montreal VA takes Cirque’s legacy and gives it a new frame — one that feels lived-in, local, and ready for after hours.

Björn Fogelberg is a Swedish Music Producer and label owner, with releases on XAKK Records, Dissident, ICONYC, Krafted, Freegrant, Hexagonal Music, Routine Espresso, Addictive Sounds and other labels. His journey into the world of electronic music began in the mid-80s when he learned how to make music on a Commodore 64 computer. He has released three full-length albums; 64 (1996), Karooshi Porn (1999), and Focus (2017). His music has been supported and played by many top-tier DJs over the years, including Armin Van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Yotto, Solarstone, Jaytech, DJ Ruby, Anthony Pappa, Ruben Karapetyan and more. In addition to being featured in films such as How to Stop Being a Loser, Björn's music has also been used in computer games; Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver's Paradise, Super Laser Racer, Club Penguin, and the arcade game Pump it up pro 2.
