Therein are a Brisbane based eclectic prog metal quartet, with influences ranging from acoustic to modern electronica to progressive metal. If Dream Theater met Opeth at a party hosted by Frank Zappa that King Crimson decided to crash, the resulting madness would sound like Therein. The party would probably have better conversation though. Whilst drawing from a wide variety of influences, the band manages to achieve a sound that is characteristically their own. They morph and evolve from song to song leaving the listener wondering what will come next. 


The band consists of vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Cameron Whelan, Brisbane guitar god Ryan Boyd, Krishan Meepe thumping out the bass, and Kned Gulliford rounding out the quartet with his progressive, percussive bombast on drums. Therein’s live show is an amalgam of world acoustic instruments, modern electronic performance and an elaborate barrage of progressive metal and their debut EP ‘insert title’ is an intricate extension upon their live sound.


Formed in mid 2011, Therein have been hitting the clubs locally and interstate, sharing their particular style of progressive metal to receptive audiences. The band has spent the last 6 months working on their debut-recorded performance slated for release in June 2013. Recorded in Brisbane, Cameron Whelan describes the material as “An accurate depiction of where we are as a band, musicians and as people. The recording captures our live sound that the fans have been enjoying so far, yet we were able to experiment with a variety of recording techniques and additional effects that give the studio versions a character of their own.”
