UK artist Liquid returns to Kniteforce Records this November with a twelve-track album entitled ‘Lethal’.

Eamon Downes, aka Liquid, is behind the seminal classic 'Sweet Harmony', which helped define the early 90s UK rave scene. After he and his production partner, Shane Heneghan, signed to XL Recordings, they released the pioneering ‘Future Music’ EP, which included the breakbeat dub classic 'Liquid is Liquid'. After going solo, Eamon cemented his reputation for producing challengingly alternative floor fillers with 'Time to Get Up' – described as a "progressive gem" – and the Balearic-tinged, flamenco guitars of ‘One Love Family’ EP, both of which were Mixmag singles of the week.

With Top 20 singles in the UK and numerous hits in Europe, Liquid has achieved substantial commercial success while maintaining critical acclaim. The brand-new album ‘Lethal’ follows 2017’s ‘Energy Flows’ and 2019’s ‘Spacemonkey’, drawing on formative influences but with contemporary production skills and slabs of breakbeats, featuring reggae legend Earl 16, Echo Ranks, and the rave scene's Rachel Wallace and Niki Mak.

The album kicks off with 'Wrong Sun', which layers funky bass slaps, dubbed-out textures and soulful vocals before 'Battle For The Minds' make way for rave stabs and powerful, breakbeat rhythms. Up next, 'Kill For You' delivers rave euphoria through spaced-out pads and angelic leads throughout whilst 'Dread Inna Babylon' lays down sub rattling jungle rhythms and Echo Ranks' iconic ragga vocals. Spiralling melodies, choppy drum work, and bleepy synths feature in 'Machinic Repetition', leading to low slung cut 'Broken' deploying ambient moods and tension building lead vocals from vocals Rachel Wallace.

'Morphine' and 'Lethal Beats' together provide reverberating, peak-time dancefloor cuts with dizzying rave modulations and rumbling bassline before making way 'Blood Like Dope' floats throughout cinematic soundscapes, gentle vocals and growling bass frequencies. 'Funk Remove Machine' with orbiting synths, rippling percussion and trippy elements until 'Plasticity' offers an emotional climax with soft keys and uplifting pads before the breakneck beats crash through. Rounding off proceedings in style is 'Blackwave' with its hypnotic sonics and echoing fx, intricately unfold with pure elegance.

Karim B - Love As Good As This [Premier]

If you were to dash through cross-dimensional portals somewhere on the other end of the multiverse for a routine, there's good chances you'd be listening to Galaxy Lane's 'Voyager 1' full blast in your saucer. Next in line on Lone Romantic, the mysterious producer from outer-space lands a particularly delectable debut transmission fuelled on wilder-than-wild electro grooves, glitchy radio disruptions and boy, a healthy dose of laser-precise early rave breaks.
 
Interlarded with cryptic vox samples drowned in distortions and sonar echoes scanning an endless horizon of unknowns, 'Take Off' takes us for a zero-G drift across the greater void as an introduction. It's with the second track, 'Landed', that the engine eventually starts to bolt and race, drawing us into a planetary waltz of sorts, as Saturn rings go hula hoop and the moon's craters get irresistibly itchy. The spaceship's dropped anchor off a sun-deprived belt of mercury lakes, and hostile alien territories are ahead. No time for laser battles and other robot-assisted jousts, Galaxy Lane's here to wake up the uninitiated from their ignorant slumber and hand them the universal truth on a platter: old-school is the only school.
 
On 'Explore', the groove gets further epic as ominous sub-bass swashes, rattling drums, playful bleeps and FX-drenched synth bursts collide and melt dangerously. One to leave wisps of vapour in its wake, the track revs up and blazes its way across lysergic extra-terrestrial scapes - whilst bushes teem with a neon-coloured flora and translucent, multi-headed fauna. Back on board the shuttle, it's time to 'Return'. A further pared-down affair, the final cut draws back to a deeper, more anxiogenic kind of ambience, where a skittish and pacey drum programming interlaces with a heavy machinic hiss, busy pistons noises and raucous gargles to weave a singular home-coming finale. Look through the window and all you'll see is an ever-shrinking grain of sand in an off-the-scale planetary system. Dizzying.
