Somewhere Between the Clouds and the Mud

Lessons learned was created after a series of intense life lessons.  The tune is about 2 or 3 years old.  Not entirely sure.  Just felt it needed to be out in the world.  May you walk through those portals and experiences in your life with grace, and have the support you need.

Sweet Long Life (Eliot Lipp Remix)

The latest singles “haze” and “regret” find Kodomo digging back to his earlier electro and IDM influences, incorporating raw analog synths and choppy rhythmic samples.  The making of both these tracks came together rather quickly and spontaneously.  “Haze”, as titled, conveys a vague and dense atmosphere, driven with heavy electro drums and layers of cyclic melodic lines which blur into obscurity toward the end.  “Regret” — an emotionally potent track —  is saturated with sharp distorted beats and chopped up vocal samples, followed by crushing synth pads and solitary piano.

Q: why did I start producing music 16 years ago? 

A: I was in a breakdance crew, and the guys were making their own breakbeats. So I started making beats as well, and the first tracks I made were in the 130bpm range for breakdancing, popping & locking etc. After doing ATYYA for 10+ years professionally, I decided it is time to make a track to pay homage to my Origins.

Aytiko - In The Spaghetti

For Ana Sia, the game changed completely between 2005 and 2009. That half a decade was an eternity in EDM time. This raw brand of bass music, which came from the grimy depths of UK's drum & bass scene--but had a swagger all its own--consumed Ana Sia. Her collection of this crooked new style grew and grew, and still pushes her buttons today.

As a tribute, Ana Sia is releasing her second in a series of mixes which illustrate her influences and the growth in her sound over the course of her career. "Rebound" examines closely the sonic novelty of the '05-'09 stretch, and is comprised of some of her favorite tunes to this day. Some of the "dubstep" that appears in this music would not be recognizable in today's eardrum-demolishing, decibel-hungry scene. Minimal, and sometimes even subdued in tone, early dubstep, especially the first tracks Ana Sia was coming in contact with was still revolutionary in its own right. See if you can pick out cuts from artists who have risen to the top of the game today. Running the gamut from wicked little gurglers to dancehall-influenced anthems to contemporary bass-heavy bangers, "Rebound" is like a guided tour through the short history of the 'step.

Mental Static

Kodomo is moniker for electronic music producer and composer Chris Child.  Kodomo’s work spans several genera’s and can be cinematic, dance driven, and dreamlike, with roots in IDM, minimalism, techno, and various styles of ambient music.  Child is also an Emmy award winning TV composer and has contributed music for a handful of games developed by Harmonix.  His music is regularly featured on NPR news shows.
