John Obray and Dann Saxton met when they were 14 at a Boy Scout meeting. Truth. Then one day at school in Granada, Minnesota, Dann saw a kid with purple hair walk by his classroom. It was the new kid, John Obray. But Dann and John already knew eachother. They became great friends and class clowns together, and more importantly - they became each others first songwriting partners. The rest is history. Literally.

"Big Handed Wonder", "Ode To My Creators", and "Sweet and Sour Chicken" were all written when the guys were 15/16. Our good friend Sean Ingledew penned the verses for "Ode To My Creators". KoffeeBreak finally recorded in 2003 when John visited Dann in Los Angeles, where he lived and was purusing a career in music. They recorded these songs at Avilon Audio in Burbank, California ~ by producer Greg Vossberg.

It was on this trip that they wrote and recorded a new song, "All That Matters", which turned out to be the last song they wrote together, and the last time they saw eachother. John was killed in a car accident on April 30, 2004.

John's legacy lives on through a nonprofit he started called UnityShows, Dann and John's other friends have kept this nonprofit alive to this day, bringing live music to their small area of the world ~ hoping to inspire the southern Minnesota youth to explore music and art beyond the city limits.

These are the lost tapes of the KoffeeBreak recording sessions of 2003, recorded at Avilon Audio in Burbank California. These sessions were produced and engineered by Greg Vossberg, and produced by Dann, John, and Greg. Here you can listen to the recordings of each piece of the songs separately. You can hear John in the booth playing the guitar parts, and you can hear Dann and John's isolated vocal tracks.

Dann continued to write and release music under band names Elmwood, Butane, and Kill The Complex - and went on to write music for tv and films like Godzilla(2014). Dann currently resides in Marina Del Rey, California.
