Belfast house/techno imprint Extended Play have a special treat in store for their 50th release. 'Statement of Intent' is exactly that, a 14 track compilation of Belfast originals that showcases the talent and diversity of the city's underground.

Founded in 2009 by DJs T-Bone and DMX - both featured on the new record - Extended Play has gone from strength to strength, putting the wider world on to artists like BICEP and Ejeca.

From the compilation, we're premiering 'Eastside Rhythm', the debut offering from new artist Moodtrax. It's a banger alright, hewn from Chicago stone, all huge thwacking drums and dizzy acid bass. Have a gander below:

The fiftieth release on Extended Play label is a statement of exactly what is going on in our city’s burgeoning electronic and were we are headed with the underground scene. This release has 14 original recordings crafted to showcase the current sound of Belfast!!!

Bloomer White - Body Sing - Multi layered synth goodness from Bloomer White. This track has a multitude of twists and turns that keeps things moving with a great dynamic and ethereal atmosphere.

Jordan - Want To Be - Jordan displays some 80’s influences on this dark and trippy house workout with a distinctive call and answer vocal hook that can get stuck in your head for days.
 
Cromby - Lucid Dancer - Cromby goes deep and tripped out with splashes of acid on the late night groover “Lucid Dancer”.

Scoper & Bubba - Hot In The Valley - Classic Recordings & Glasgow Underground favourites Scoper & Bubba return to the fore with a track that wouldn’t sound out of place on the amazing Nuphonic back catalogue.

JMX - Catch The Feelin' – Extended Play Head Honcho JMX always jacks out in the drum department, so when he combines it with jazz flecked keys and locked stabs, it creates a standout hybrid.

Sid Carey – Machines - AVA festival competition winner Sid Carey’s “Machines” track is dark electronic funk that is designed for late night dance floors.
 
T-Bone - Rich Dancing – One of the bosses T-Bone steps up with the sub heavy “Rich Dancing” which packs a very solid punch with the organ stabs and vocal combination bringing the funk. Very reminiscent of the great Peace Division.

Moodtrax - Eastside Rhythm - Moodtrax’s debut is a proper Chicago influenced drum machine workout, meaning he is an artist you got to keep an eye on.

Martin De Brig - That Fucking Hands In The Air Track - Hip house vocals, 909 drum programming and acid lines means De Brig is aiming to have every single hand in the air.

Slurrp - Late Night Roll - Slurrp knows how he wants his late night soundtrack to roll, jacking and with a definite nod to Dancemania.
 
Chris Hanna - B.K.I.T.B - “Broken Knuckles in the Bunatee” is a dedication to the roof at the parties in the Bunatee – which has seen more broken knuckles that it cares to mention…

Ejeca – Squelch - Stripped back techno bomb from Ejeca that has already picked up a tune of the week accolade on BBC Radio One.

JC Williams – Paradox - A slice of Belfast acid courtesy of the analogue master JC Williams. Fresh from releasing material on Jackmaster’s Ultimate Hits label, it's clear to see why he is picking up fans all over the globe at the minute.

Cophin - Way Mon Tah - Fresh from their recent Superfreak EP, the Cophin duo serve us up a proper slice of peak time business via Way Mon Tah. This stab driven techno number wouldn’t sound out of place on Delsin records and prove the lads have a lot of range to what they can offer

A name on everyone's lips, charismatic talent wAFF is back onboard Hot Creations curating the ‘Sick Pleasure EP’ with three original cuts that once again showcase his unique style and adept understanding of the dance floor.

Kicking things off with ‘Kidney Punch’, a throbbing bass is perfectly executed under blissful, angelic vocals. Party starter ‘Flipback’ is next up igniting carnival-esque energy. On the flip, the sonic ’Sick Pleasure’ carries the mind away through hypnotic melodies that ride amongst the layers of intricate percussion.

A natural born talent, wAFF started producing over ten years ago and has gone on to become one of the most sought after artists of recent times. Not only is he an integral part of the Hot Creations family and resident at Jamie’s Paradise night at DC10 in Ibiza, he’s also releasing on the likes of Moon Harbour, Drumcode and Cocoon. His music has also been getting the nod from key players Adam Beyer, Loco Dice, Joseph Capriati, Marco Carola, Sven Vath and many more.

wAFF - Sick Pleasure

Though very much part of the lo-fi techno movement of recent years, Florian Kupfer’s past includes six years as a soprano choir boy. As such it is no surprise there is a real sense of enchanting grace to his work, which most often comes on LIES, but also on Russian Torrent Versions and Wille Burns’ W.T. Records. Whether mechanical and menacing or sombre and heartbreaking, his grainy grooves always manage to cast a spell on the dance floor. 

The mix he serves up here makes scant use of drums, especially early on where lingering piano solos, looming ambience and foreboding acoustic guitars add up to something incredibly powerful despite being so sparse. Grinding drums and malfunctioning synths eventually take over and work to soundtrack a desolate industrial space where all traces of humanity have long gone. It’s bleak but beautiful, much like everything to which Kupfer puts his name.
