Who I Am talks about what is left after life has turned everything around. You went through something major, felt down and depressed, struggled with your path and whether you should continue the way you did. It’s a song about fragility, desperation, new beginnings and the feeling that everything has changed but that the core of who you are still remains. What defines you will ultimately stay, no matter how shaken up you are by life’s’ struggle and changes.

Who I Am (feat. Hannah Epperson)

Deep Waters talks about being reckless, not caring for your own life enough to protect it from literally being swallowed by a deep, dark ocean. It depicts the image of someone standing at the edge of a cliff and pondering over the idea of jumping into the vastness of the sea, letting it take you whole. There will most likely be a time in each of our lives where we feel so hopeless, that we don’t want to go on. We are trying to run from it, we are trying to plead with some higher power to free us, we want to get rid of all the darkness we carry. But let’s face it, that simply won’t work and neither would it serve us in the long run. So, we either jump to put an end to our own life or we have the courage to go on, face the darkness, let it shape us, like the ocean does the landscapes. Only one part of the original song ‚survived’ the recording session. The rest of the music and lyrics have been written in a tiny cottage in Denmark, very close to the ocean, but without any treacherous cliffs.

Deep Waters

Gold talks about realising that every human experience is essentially precious and worth honouring. All we have is gold, even the pieces and parts that we’d like to erase about ourselves, the things that are not pretty, not appropriate, not the way they’re supposed to be. At the end of the song, however, there is a lot of doubt about whether everything will keep getting better once we realise that life is precious. It ends with the uneasy premonition that things will get really dark, before they will turn lighter again.
The track was the first song to be recorded in Denmark. We recorded everything on our own in a little cottage, with the help of a mobile studio that we brought along with us.

Imagine you were a person on a spaceship, all by yourself for years, floating in deep space. You would feel the longing for human love, for someone to say your name out loud. How does it feel to be so lonely, to feel so detached from everything that makes us human? How does it feel to know that you will never feel that connection again? Human Love is a reflection on modern society on life happening on screens and on losing connection to reality.

Three musicians. Two brothers. One married couple. This is KOJ. Together they give life to a sound that is full of contrasts, sometimes roaring, untamed and raw, as the ocean that inspires them, other times delicate, fragile and minimalistic.
