2019, a year Selective Response first released music to the world in the form of singles ‘Scorched Earth Policy’ and ‘Weekend At Nik's’ - they provided a clear indication that the California Native was not messing around, with his powerful, industrial, raw productions. 

Crisis of Man has quietly gathered pace these past few years reaching a critical mass as the go to for everyone from Truncate to Perc via I Hate Models. Heading the imprint, Selective Response has taken pains to set trends rather than follow them, building a loyal fan base around his uncompromising industrial sound.

Early support from Cleric, Dax J and Perc, encouraged the launch of his own label Crisis Of Man, a platform which since has mainly been the home for his own creations, it now kicks off 2022 with a stellar 10 track VA, to mark their 10th release.  

‘Core Values Vol 1’ is the first in no doubt a series of stacked compilations to come on the label, featuring talented undiscovered names including EAS, PLEASURES, Emptyshell, Rave Syndicate and Innestemme, to those with some recognition including US female artists Annika Wolfe and Lindsey Herbert, Scotland’s Frazi.er and Germany’s Zeltak.

He went in the studio recording straight away, using his instinct and not overthinking the result. These are his ‘First Intentions’. ‘Postures Digitales’ and ‘Postures Sociales’ are two parts of the same story, people pretending on social media and the emptiness behind it. ‘Leaving Cities’ is a fresh walk in the countryside away from the digital pressure.

Austrian-based DJ/Producer, Aida Arko, makes her full Soma debut with the industrial-influenced EP, ‘Under You Above The Galvanic Sky’. After her appearance on the Collective Process VA series earlier in 2021, Aida has worked tirelessly in the studio, honing her sound to present this hard-hitting and superbly produced EP.

Starting strong, “Rock It Till You Lock It” opens the EP with a powerful yet emotive feeling as driving drums hammer home against swaying atmospherics. 

Title track “Above You Under The Galvanic Sky” begins ominously before intense percussive workouts and sharp vocal cuts for the basic of a dark, fierce track. 

Third track, “Hard Candy”, has Aida drawing on more emotive themes again as s rich ambiance lures you in before giving way to tweaked-out acid elements and her signature, potent industrial-influenced sound. 

The final track, “Enter The Void” closes out the EP and takes no prisoners from the opening. Thudding kicks build the momentum as subtle yet distorting atmospheres work their way through the background to construct a full-force, thundering end to the EP.

The concept for Schacke’s, Apocalyptic Decadence was thought out during the dark days of the first lockdown in 2020, it is essentially about the desire for hedonism and excess being amplified when faced with apocalyptic omens and the annihilation of the familiar.

When faced with destruction, the psyche approaches a duality, it can either swallow the pill of bitter realism or withdraw and escape into the imaginal, constructing a world of hedonism and pleasure, the paradox of the latter, which the album explores, is that this approach only accelerates the process of impending doom and the delusion that through the pursuit of eschatological pleasure, the world might be orgasmically reborn.

Apocalyptic Decadence sees Schacke exploring the full spectrum of his musical discography, taking inspiration from the industrial, dark and rough sounds from his early days, combining it with the hyper-sensuality of his later works. The sound is twisted, psychological, sex-fixated and intoxicating.

The album can be considered the 3rd part in his “Pleasuredome Series”, following his prior two releases on Instruments Of Discipline: ‘Welcome To The Pleasuredome’ & ‘Artificial Intercourse’.
