 Electric Indigo, DJ, composer, musician, has performed in 36 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Her name stands for the intelligent and distinguished interpretation of techno and electronic music. Her DJ-sets are characterized by a wide variety with a clarity of vision, and a depth that only comes from a deep understanding of the music and the art of the DJ. As a composer and musician, she emphasizes the spatial-temporal placement of subtly textured sounds. She received the "outstanding artist award Musik 2012" in the field of electronic music and computer music and the national grant for composition 2013 from the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture.

Currently, Electric Indigo prepares a new piece for hoergeREDE together with author Olga Flor [premiere October 25] and works on her first solo album.

Electric Indigo started her DJ career in Vienna 1989 and lived in Berlin for three years [1993-1996] to work at the legendary Hard Wax record store. In those years, she also began to produce her own music, first releases came out in 1993. In 1998, Electric Indigo founded female:pressure an international database and network for female DJs, producers, and visual artists in the fields of electronic music that was awarded with an honorary mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2009. In 2002, she discovered her passion for experimental music and started to play live. Meanwhile, she gives concerts in the realms of avant-garde as well as club music. Institutions like the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the University of Fine Arts Vienna, and the University of Applied Arts Vienna commonly invite Electric Indigo as a guest lecturer. This year, in 2013, she writes the monthly column "bonustrack" for an.schläge magazine.
Important works in recent years comprise compositions for the theater play "Das kleine Zimmer am Ende der Treppe" 2011, "Structuring Contours" - premiere at Klangspuren Festival 2011, her 5 channel compositions "RRHONFEER-RRHEFNEOR" for Moozak Festival 2012, and "Chiffres" - premiere at e_may / Wien Modern 2012, as well as her 8 channel pieces for the radical opera "ABSTRIAL" 2013.

This mix was recorded live at Zodiac Club in Madrid this September. Intergalactic Gary started to spin records at squat and club parties in the early 80s after being Influenced by the Italo Disco in The Hague (Netherlands). Produced music for Top Secret Records in 1994. Started The Parallax Corporation together with I-F  in 1998. 
Since 1999 till now active as DJ in the European clubcircuit: Panorama Bar Berlin, Barcelona, Paard Den Haag , Melkweg Amsterdam , Moscow, Dublin, Glasgow, Madrid, Geneva, Munich etc...

Digital Tsunami 050 - Intergalactic Gary

This is the live recording of Intergalactic Gary playing at the Hipodrome 5 Years Anniversary party, in the main room at Club Control, Bucharest, last month. It was a crazy night in one of Bucharest’s most effervescent clubs. You can hear this also on the recording, 2-3 glitches when people were literally jumping and pushing the DJ table and skipping the record or touching the recorder :)

Luger opened the night and warmed the atmosphere, until John took control and fired up the place as you can hear on the recording.  The night has quickly shifted into the a late morning by Mick Wills’ dark and deep session, filling the air with his obscure edits.

It was a great party, with 2 uncompromising DJs in a comfortable club with an unleashed crowd.
Thanks Club Control for having us and special thanks to Alexandru Jijian for organizing everything. We had a really wonderful time.

Solid Steel (16th February) Our guest in Hour 1 is Answer Code Request ahead of the release of his new album 'Gens' which is out next week on Ostgut Ton. For the Berghain resident, this is his follow up to his celebrated debut LP 'Code' from 2014 and you can catch him playing tonight at index, Dublin, 17th Feb at Fabric London and the album release party at Berghain on 24th Feb. He told us;
"With this mix I explore opposing musical poles that I gravitate towards as a DJ and producer – but even more so as a listener. Namely, abstract electronic pieces on the one hand and more obviously rhythm-based tracks on the other. I’ve included music classic and new, all of which however shares a certain state of mind, a feeling of distance, restlessness and isolation. The first 40 minutes wander through ambient and experimental music textures, eventually moving toward more club-friendly vistas, broken beats, dubstep, electro and techno, and including the occasional uplifting track. Having long had a soft spot for UK hardcore outgrowths and related club sounds, I also hoped to show with this selection what I see as a broader bass music continuum, one which includes producers outside of the UK. Finally, this mix was recorded at home after several sketches made on the road during my album live tour. It's been a pleasure to compile for a series as pioneering as this one."

Since the end of Sandwell District, Silent Servant has continued to be an influential presence in the techno world. The American’s Jealous God label defies convention and expectation with each release and his own avant guard productions remain utterly unique. Each one speaks to his roots—Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure—by fusing post punk and industrial with techno in chilling ways. His conceptual and sincere aesthetic carries over into his live sets, but also his DJ mixes. 

This latest one is special indeed: it is a mix of influences, in chronological order and “with only a few hiccups in dates” from 1972 to 2000 and all recorded on vinyl in one take. The resulting hour takes in plenty of those goth and alternative rock sounds, new wave, noise and experimental touchstones he grew up on in Los Angeles, but also seamlessly connects them to the techno that later influenced him so the likes of Kraftwerk, Neon, The Final Cut, Toddy Terry and Jeff Mills all make the cut. From stark and jerky rhythms early on to supple, strobe lit grooves in the second half, this is a personal mix that really tells the story of Silent Servant’s musical evolution.

Circus' Grand leader, Yousef, played an unusual role at his last gig at London's Electric venue in Brixton. Rather than taking peak time slot, the man behind one of Liverpool's biggest nights set about a warm up set ahead of the mighty Carl Cox and by all reports, rather enjoyed the experience.  We managed to grab a recording of the two hour set and chatted to Yousef about how he approaches these things - this is one for you, all up and coming DJ's!

Yousef: “This mix is all about the art of the warm-up, something which often gets forgotten in clubland and a set I don’t get to play too often any more, not even at my own event, Circus. It’s where pretty much every DJ starts out their career (I did way back in the annexe of Cream) and it’s maybe the most important set of the night, starting the ball rolling for the evening and setting the vibe and the tempo for the DJs that play later.
At Circus I have to listen to a lot of warm-ups and play a few extended ones, and it’s definitely one of the key ingredients of what we do. You need to be able to trust someone to slowly coerce people onto the dancefloor, building the energy over a period of time rather than going for the jugular straight away. There’s nothing worse than someone banging out the tunes to an empty dancefloor ten minutes after opening, and we’ve always strived to ensure this is one of the best sets of the evening.

Playing for Carl Cox’s Revolution at Electric Brixton I saw a rare chance to do the warm-up slot away from Circus, so I asked to see if I would be able to lay down the tone of the night beforehand. This mix reflects everything I think a good warm-up set should have and it also gave me the chance to play a lot of records I don’t get to play very often; starting off deep and emotive and slowly building the pace. There’s some lovely spacey almost electronica sounds at the start, very warm, before we end up getting into some serious floor wrecking house music, all in the space of two hours.”

Efdemin has all but perfected his deep, expertly reduced take on house and techno. The German artist has mastered his form over the course of numerous 12”s on various labels, including three albums on Dial Records. They are intricate, mind bending affairs that take you in on yourself and constantly explore new ground. His hybrid mix CD on his own Naïf imprint and Curle last year was another career high point, and recently he has turned himself towards experimental and microtonal composition with yet more fascinating results. February 2019 will see Ostgut Ton release New Atlantis, his latest album and one inspired by Francis Bacon’s unfinished 17th century novel of the same name. Promising to fuse his left-of-centre take on dance music with a new found passion for experimental sound art, it’s the latest chapter in a fascinating artistic story. 

His podcast for us is a decidedly club-focussed mix, featuring the sort of warped synths and underlapping grooves you would expect of the man. There are multi-layered tracks of percussion, sound design and stringy rhythms to start, then things slip into long, draw out passages of tunnel vision techno before the drums begin to hit harder to carry you home. At times playful, at others deadly serious, it sums up the career of Efdemin perfectly.

Intergalactic Gary deserves a statue. His modest soul has shaped the Dutch dance scene to an extent few tend to fully apprehend. To have Marcellus Pittman as our guest for a RH store mix with records he has never heard before was pretty electrifying. The living legend from Detroit took the opportunity to have a proper browse in the shop and see where it would go…  

As a production artist and selector, Pittman has helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound. When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus “Malik” Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of “the Wizzard” and the “Electrifying Mojo”, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.

In 1993, Malik released his initial work of production with local Hip-Hop collective “Home Grown”. Shortly thereafter, he released “Essential Selections, Vol. 1” on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Malik forged a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, collectively known as the 3 Chairs. Pittman is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm, which will release his upcoming projects.

Store Mix 031 I Marcellus Pittman Digs Rush Hour

New mixes comes courtesy of Fotini Kappa aka Pasiphae. Those in love with Greek mythology would probably know Pasiphae is the daughter of Hélios and Persé, sister of Éétès and Circé, bride of Minos (king of Crete), and notoriously the mother of the Minotaur ! Also, in old greek, the name Πασιφάη means roughly "the one who shines for everybody".
Born greek but now living in The Hague, a city that clearly inspired her sound. Murder Capital-like but contemporary sounds, mutant alien funk, horror-fired dancefloor dystopia and skewed electronic soundscapes is what she does best. Together with legendary The Hague DJ Intergalactic Gary she produced "Made Of Glass" EP on Paul du Lac’s "Bio Rhythm" label before flying solo with "Siphax" on Interstellar Funk’s "Artificial Dance". Recently you could also discover her on remix duties for cult greek artist Lena Platonos on Dark Entries imprint. More to come for this rising talent and we're glad to have her on board !
