Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet’s Orion is back on podcast duties, this time for experimental series Zenaari. The tandem’s dancier inclinations are a little more explored, but here they’re given space to investigate another raft of musical leanings. This one’s quite special, and a good example for what the Zenaari concept is at heart: a cross-genre exploration in sound that pushes the limits of established taste and composition, and above all provokes thought. Loaded with ideas, this foray spans a breadth of references, from Hasselian drones, to creaking melodies, to downtempo Italian crooning, and leaves out hi-tech mixing and glitzy effects in favour of a more raw and bluntly sequential approach to mix building. In truth, the pair have rifled through an eclectic archive of music from their native land and created an extraordinary emotional collage that’s heavy on nostalgia without tipping the scales too far into sentimentality. Affecting, but with the occasional flutter of a bassline as a reminder that this polymath duo’s there pulling the levers. Zenaari Mix 008 is a nonpareil mix from this enigmatic Milanese duo, one that’s sure to leave a mark.

Zenaari Mix 008 - Orion

“I've collaborated with Polychrome for quite some time. I performed at their one-year anniversary at Sexyland and, along with Eversines, played at their ADE 2022 party. Additionally, I contributed to their recent "Reflection EP." Throughout this collaboration, we became friends. Hervé, one of the core members of the group, asked me numerous times to create an EP together. It wasn't until his wedding that I finally said yes (how fitting!).

The first track of the EP is "Laak," a tune I created the day after playing at the club in Den Haag. I thoroughly enjoyed DJing at this venue with its impressive sound system. It inspired me to work on the low reese-bass that forms the core foundation of the track. Hervé and I decided to dedicate the entire A-side to this tune, as we had discussed how nice it would be to have a 45-side on this EP.

The second side focuses more on the emotional aspects we appreciate. "Underwater (Dream Mix)" opens this side with an uptempo techno-ish foundation and trancy melodies, fitting the label's aesthetic perfectly. The track's name stems from my unintentional creation of very "underwater" sounding pads during the recording session (note to self: next time double-check if the mix is alright). The EP concludes with "Reassociate," a tune heavily inspired by the early 2000s IDM gems we adore.”

Bassiani’nin resident DJ’i ve Bassiani Records’un label manager’ı olarak sahnenin merkezindeki yerini koruyan Kvanchi, bu kayıtta arşivinin trippy ve trance etkili parçalarına yöneliyor. 

Minimal groove’larla örülü, sade ama derin yapılı bu set, dinleyiciyi hipnotik bir ses dünyasına davet ediyor.

Tiflis’te yükselen protestoların gölgesinde, Kvanchi bu seti hem sahnede hem de toplumsal alanda sesini duyuran bir sanatçı olarak sunuyor.

A resident of the iconic Bassiani and label manager at Bassiani Records, Kvanchi dives into the more trancey and trippy corners of his collection. 

Built around minimal grooves and stripped-down rhythms, the set delivers a hypnotic, carefully crafted journey through his distinct sonic world.

Recorded in the midst of ongoing protests in Tbilisi, this mix arrives with quiet weight — a reminder of how music and resistance often move side by side.

Philipp Priebe returns to his own Stólar imprint this August with his ‘Layers Of Longing’ EP, comprising four original compositions.

Berlin artist Philipp Priebe’s now extensive back catalogue and his Stólar label has firmly cemented him as a coveted figure in the underground deep house and techno scene over the past decade, garnering an array of widespread attention from DJ’s and media like through numerous EP’s, debut album on his own imprint and most recently another long player for Freund Der Familie’s new Paradijs Boogie imprint. Here we see Priebe’s sonic story continue with four fresh cuts for Stólar, leading the way is ‘Need & Desire’, a seven and a half minute excursion through hazy textural elements, hypnotic spoken word and raw reduced drums before ‘A Functional Piece Of Different Nature’ lays down a sturdy, heavily swung and saturated rhythm section alongside boomy low end swells, delayed vocal chants and spiralling dub echoes.

Opening the flip-side is ‘A Sculpture’, diving deeper into dub realms via ever evolving murky atmospherics, dub flutters and resonant synth licks intertwined with stripped down percussion. ‘To Find A Seat’ then concludes the release, employing more classic dub techno tropes aswarbled stabs sequences, cavernous reverberations and cinematic stings float atop crisp hats, crunchy claps and a weighty 4/4 kick.
