La Danse #2 is the second digital compilation of a series from international talented producers we support and love.
Following our heart and taste for mixed influences and creed, La Danse is a tribute to the dance floor mixing together organic works in order to bring new energy in clubs. We hope this second volume will bring back our dance floors to life. From la Danza de los Voladores during Mesoamerican rituals to the Maenads in Greek mythology, dancing is part of social life from the outset, and will always be.
Because dancing frees body and mind - because club culture is essential - this compilation series preaches for an uninhibited and uncontrolled dance. There is only one motto « dance or get lost!

Having become one of Crosstown Rebels’ key artists in recent years, Barcelona-born Tibi Dabo returns to the label this February with his latest EP, the four track Isla. Since debuting on the label in 2019, Tibi Dabo (AKA Max Guardans) has cemented his place amongst the Crosstown family with standout EPs such as Disbelieve and The Distance We Share, the latter of which featuring two remixes from David Morales.

Sharing his thoughts on Isla, Tibi Dabo asks “What to do with our time on earth? Find an island of joy and comfort, a modest retreat. A place to stay sane... I was feeling quite empty during our months of isolation, no influences and no external inputs. Then this idea of creating a conceptual island came to existence, an entity where I could play and put contrasting influences of electronic music together in one place. My little island was born, a space I feel as an optimistic outlook towards the future, something that I find hard to achieve.”

Tibi Dabo creates this scene perfectly as the title track opens proceedings, easing the listener in with delicate pads before waves of harmonious elements and finely placed percussions dance in and out of the track. Mothball then further emphasises the artist’s attention to detail as its lead melody and vocal-chops develop in tandem throughout. Brain The Cut follows, acting as a metaphorical signal of nightfall on Tibi Dabo’s conceptual island. Rounding off the release, Arp 8 delivers warming melodies atop of a subtle break beat in an exquisitely emotive manner.

Still in its infancy, yet mature in its intention, the Tibi Dabo project sees Max in his element; drawing on over a decade of playing and making music, perfectly demonstrated on Isla. Emerging from a new generation of multi-disciplined artists, Tibi Dabo’s refreshingly unique sound has also seen him remix for Crosstown Rebels head Damian Lazarus on two occasions. Determined and full of creative energy, Tibi Dabo thrives on producing music with no restrictions and, driven by his own need for exploration together with the support of influential industry figureheads, he has a locker full of fresh new music to unleash.

HARDT ANTOINE is a London based DJ producer of French and West Indian descent, who continuously combines his hugely colourful and eclectic taste in music. He has also made a name for himself with his Reculture label and club nights.

His KOMPAKT debut clearly shows why he’s one to watch in the years to come. “Nobody’s Watching” is a dark grooving beast with bending synth lines and a haunting vocal; counterbalanced with uplifting Eastern analog pads. It’s from this rare breed of tracks that shine in a frantic peak time set and sexy late night moments alike.

“All We See” follows a similar path. Its mandatory bassline and dark melody evolve into something uplifting, as if to say – ‘We always see light at the end of our tunnel’.

Radial takes a more cinematic approach and largely neglects the dancefloor in a classic KOMPAKT 3-track EP fashion, following a lovely tradition that began with Dettinger’s KOM 2 and later on spawned the Pop Ambient movement.

Okay, you’re listening to the 23rd edition of Kompakt’s annual compilation series TOTAL… hold on… 23??? It’s impossible to look at this number without thinking of William S. Burrough’s Captain Clark anecdote, the Illuminatus trilogy and the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu. But don’t you worry, we’re not giving in to eikositriophobia. We’re enlightened folks, after all.

The lively dance begins solemnly with KOLLMORGEN’s deep-subtle minimal gem “Muddy”. Making her debut is the wonderful ARGIA with the somewhat misleading title ‘No Concept’ – the Madrid native indeed has a very precise plan. Also, our number one hit guarantor, JÜRGEN PAAPE, is represented here with his brand-new super hit ‘Alone In Italy’. His colleague MICHAEL MAYER is also in top disco spirits with ‘Talmi’. One of the secret weapons of the current season comes from STEPHAN BARNEM & FUTURISTANT. ‘Don’t Cry’ is a passionate New Wave belter for eternity. JÖRG BURGER proclaims a new, trippy genre: Cinematic Dance, before C.A.R. & PATRICE BÄUMEL slowly raise the energy level in the ‘Four Down’ Club Mix. JOHN TEJADA then cruises calmly at the desired cruising altitude while the cabin crew serves refreshments. ‘Duration’ by BARNT/MAYER pays tribute to an artist formerly known as Prince with grand rave romanticism, and about REX THE DOG’s summer smash hit ‘Change This Pain For Ecstasy’, there’s really nothing more to say. The Thuringian force of nature ROBAG WRUHME must not be missing here, of course. ‘Fire’ once again shows him in top form, with one of the dirtiest basslines in techno history. Joining us from London is HARDT ANTOINE, who spells u n d e r s t a t e m e n t with ‘All We See’. And finally, REINHARD VOIGT feat Eduard Weber bring it all together – live from the grand Comedy Barn of folk music. Cheers!

ATL024 - DARLYN VLYS - HORSE FEAT. HAPTIC

February 2019 marks two years of ATLANT and our most important release so far as we combine the musical talents of Nîmes (FR) born Darlyn Vlys with Sydney (AUS) vocalist Haptic, alongside stunning re-imaginings by electronic visionaries Mind Against, Tim Engelhardt and Peter Pardeike.
‘Horse’ first appeared on radars when Âme b2b Dixon premiered this emotional vocal to close their Innervisions hosted Royal Albert Hall 2018 event. With the rumour mill gathering pace it was a challenge to keep things under wraps, especially because we wanted to create an ATLANT package truly worthy of this special track.
The Original’s strummed bass-line and organic percussion immediately catch your attention, with everything stripped back to lay bare Haptic’s raw emotional shoegaze tone. A lesson in restraint, Darlyn Vlys’s subtle use of studio effects and sumptuous synth layers add warmth as Haptic asks us to pause, before leading the way to a string drenched chorus to ‘just give in’. Now the track develops, with the lyrics becoming ingrained in our memory. As the bass and beats exit, this time with a greater sense of urgency, Vlys leaves you wanting more.
Italian-born, Berlin-based duo Mind Against need limited introduction to anyone familiar with their music for Afterlife or Life And Death. These guys rarely provide remixes ... when they do, the output is always something special as witnessed on their recent Celestial Dub of SCB’s ‘Test Tubes’. We are privileged to welcome them to the ATLANT family.
Alessandro and Federico have delivered a true masterpiece with a deep dark groove gently underpinned by echoed crashes and atmospheric arps, as the vocal enters. A masterclass in drama, Mind Against accentuate every breath and lyric before a subtle deep bass drop increases the tension, letting ‘Horse’ run wild into a swirling arpeggiated crescendo that temporarily disorientates the listener, however Haptic’s vocal is always there to lead you home.
It is a complete pleasure to have BOg’s long time collaborator and good friend in the supremely talented Tim Engelhardt onboard. Tim’s Horse update subtly emphasises all of the key elements of the original, while increasing the dramatic orchestration, making the bass pulse and enveloping the lyrics in swathes of cinematic melodies as a sustained synth buzz and beautiful piano lines add incredible emotion. There is a purity and real beauty here.
The EP closes courtesy of the Peter Pardeike [Connaisseur | Innervisions] who builds on core events of the original to create a rich sonic tapestry perfect suited for unforgettable club moments. Peter’s teasing use of the vocal and extended breakdown raise a heightened sense of anticipation before whirring synths simmer and explode, with new melodies creating a sense of euphoria. Absolute perfection.
