It has been a long running gag at KOMPAKT that there is an adversity to our male staff having a mustache. The truth is that there are scarce few in the history of our company who have managed to get away with having a furry friend on their face. But due to the pandemic and lockdown, the staff Zoom meetings were confronted with an unprecedented snot mop overgrowth.

The solution was right under our noses. We had become entranced with a producer from Paris that has successfully managed to take the torch from the golden age of Gigolo fueled electro-pop and merge it with that signature Kompakt sexiness we crave and that we hope you hear in many of our club tracks.

He goes by the name of Captain Mustache. He has brought to Kompakt tolerance and acceptance for those who whistle with a bristle. Fred is anything but a crumb catcher and has an exemplary but short history of releases. Be it with Chicks On Speed, Correspondant, Bordello A Parigi or Helena Hauf’s Return To Disorder.  And now we present this fine double header. Play Paul (on vocals) joins for the title track called “Everything” and it is just that.  “Pulsions Organiques" brings a somewhat broken beat to his electro flavor saver tendencies. And an instrumental of “Everything” rounds things off for those who like it a little more lower brow.

[Exclusive Premiere] Popof & Captain Mustache - La Nuit

French artist Captain Mustache lands on Canada's My Favorite Robot with an EP that features a high quality list of collaborators including Chicks on Speed, Mateo Murphy and Romina Cohn. Captain Mustache is from Paris and has been toiling away on this project for many years. He has worked with electro & techno idols including Adamski, The Advent and Paris The Black Fu who have all helped bring an extra vocal dimension to his music. Inspired by 80's pioneers, Detroit techno and electroclash freaks, his sounds is a freaky mix of romantic, burlesque and cold electro styles from the future. The title track here kicks things off with the help of the iconic Chicks on Speed. It's a stark and futuristic cut with deadpan vocals and crisp melodies that bring heartfelt emotion. Romina Cohn provides the vocals on 'Besame Esta Noche', a spaced out electro journey that takes you through the stars on a skeletal groove that is perfectly icy. Things get more unhinged with the trippy 'Body x Mind', which has darker vocals and edgy chords accompanying the frozen drums and then Mateo Murphy steps up to remix. The Canadian veteran reworks 'Mentally Naked' into a loopy cut that is constantly on the rise. It keeps you perfectly in suspense and lost in the vocals, while his dub is just as special. This is high-class electro to kick off My Favorite Robot's 2020 in style.

'Captain Mustache. A DJ and producer with some fifteen years as a label manager, he arrives on Bordello A Parigi with a unique blend of electro spiked disco. The Parisian lands with a four tracker guaranteed to leave bodies and speakers aching with joy. Teaming up with Paul Play on vocals, “Special Friend” is a purely nocturnal affair. Smokey words sail above crisp percussion as laser beam synthlines lance a haze of early morning light. “Rhythm 55” is built on bold beats, the Captain slowly unfurling a sparkling melody that glimmers and shines next to burbling acid-tinged bass. A generous introduction gives way to toms and snipping snares for “Jean-Michel”, a beautiful tribute to synthesizer master Jean-Michel Jarre.
