For the occasion, we asked Romain FX 5 (hard) questions:

HF: How did you find this track, any particular reason why you chose this one to edit?
Romain: I found this track in a jazz specialised record shop in Hong Kong with a bunch of other middle eastern influenced records, it couldn’t have been more random to be honest but that’s the beauty of digging for records.
I’ve tried playing it out but i felt it was just missing a little push to make it a bit nastier, to make people go nuts on the dancefloor, so a couple of weird samples, an acid bassline & some touch up later... it became mayhem material (I think).

HF: What would you do if you weren’t making music?
Romain: In my coffin sleeping for eternity.

HF: Any favourite place in town?
Romain: Toilets are my favourite place they are the only place where you can truly be yourself and alone. I came up with my beat ideas taking a dump... everybody knows that but nobody wants to admit it.

HF: What is your favourite saying?
Romain: “Common sense is not that common”

HF: Do you fear karma?
Romain: I live by it, so I don’t fear it.
“You reap what you sow” is another good expression

Pig&Dan signal their first solo outing on Drumcode since 2016, with a stirring four-track work.

The duo stands as one of electronic music’s most prolific artists, shapeshifting between different shades of house and techno over a 15+ year period, all the while displaying a startling breadth that’s ensured their enduring demand. Their relationship with Adam Beyer has solidified over the years, first impressing with a debut EP ‘Mexico’ in 2016, before collaborating with the Swede himself in 2017 for the fantastic four-tracker ‘Capsule’, a notable highlight. With their contribution to last year’s A-Sides compilation ‘La Bruja’ one of the strongest of the bunch, their return for a full-length EP is timely. 

Title track ‘Infinity’ is rave-infused stadium techno crafted to perfection, driven by an undulating melodic lead that builds to a tension-packed break, before the chords re-appear and propel the track toward a trippy finale. Vocal cut ‘Losing Part of Me’ is momentous, with punchy bass and pin-sharp percussion juxtaposing superbly with the emotive vocal and laser-kissed melodic touches. ‘Terrax’ is propelled by woozy synth leads that escalate in intensity, before unexpectedly dropping into a series of soothing synth interludes, before slamming back in with purpose. The EP concludes with ‘Plex’, as a brooding melody line is paired with pumping percussion for an atmosphere-heavy finale.

Detroit techno king Robert Hood returns to his infamous M-Plant imprint with a no-nonsense two-tracker that sees the dance music powerhouse gracefully descending away from his gospel tenors and into his full-blown minimal techno mode. 

Titled 'Reflector / Rotate’, the visionary DJ-producer has been kind enough to lend Mixmag the release's b-side, 'Rotate' - a subtle and atmospheric techno jam with muted tones that casts deep shadows across the dancefloor before leaving revellers stunned and slipping into the void without warning.

Following releases from Michael Mayer, Blackrachas and Patrice Bäumel, we introduce two familiar faces who join forces for the first time. @floriankruse (Suara, Stil Vor Talent, Noir) and @julianwassermann (Stil Vor Talent, Senso Sound) reside in opposite sides of Germany but have managed to come together and sound as if they'd shared a studio for years.

Victor Ruiz lands his Debut EP on Drumcode.

Victor first released on Drumcode last year on their most recent edition of the famous A-Sides Vol.7 compilation with his colossal track ‘Pulso’. Victor has been relentless when it comes to producing absolutely huge sounding tracks, which are heavily suited to the big club room vibe. This May he steps up for his debut EP on Drumcode with ‘Nimbus’.

The title track ‘Nimbus’ marked an important milestone in his life, his arrival to Berlin, his new home. Due to the lack of studio space and set up, he made Nimbus entirely with headphones and laptop. A piercing track with a punctuated kick drum that cuts through the mix, alongside some industrial tones which build an eerie tension. A track that really sits on the darker side of the progressive techno world.

Victor explains that this release is “very much a mix of old and new” representing two stages of his life. ‘Unveil’ was a track he produced back in Sao Paulo, when day dreaming of his move to Europe. A chunky low end combined with big percussion that makes it more of a heady introspective track on the release. It most definitely shows a more experimental side Victor but is welcomed and makes for a thunderous dancefloor track.

Following the announcement of his first Ibiza residency, Claptone’s fifth and final remix package of ‘Fantast’ arrives featuring Swiss producer Dario D’Attis, Truesoul regular Sidney Charles and Material label head Mihalis Safras.

2019 has seen the force behind ‘The Masquerade’ events continue his project worldwide, bringing the event series to Pacha Ibiza whilst inviting the likes of Tensnake, Dennis Ferrer and Shiba San. Not only that, Claptone released a massive remix of Florence and the Machine’s ‘Hunger’ and has been involved with The Fred Hollows Foundation in aid of Cataracts Disease.

After much esteem, ‘Fantast Remixes Pt.5’ sees three more artists interpreting the album. Opening the EP, long-time producer Dario D’Attis gives his take on Claptone’s ‘Abyss of Love’. A slow burning track, D’Attis delicately balances emotive chords with passionate vocals to create an ethereal journey.

Next up, Sidney Charles ‘Hurricane Vielijans’ remixes Wildside. Incorporating as much vigour as his name suggests, he layers jacking beats with an atmospheric backdrop all guided by a compelling bassline until Mihalis Safras’ powerful kicks, high hats and sirens combine in his remix of ‘Wildside’, closing the EP in a burst of energy.
