A musical globetrotter, Simon Schmidt, also known as Blindsmyth really broke onto the scene back in 2018 with his debut album, ‘Blind’, on his Berlin based home label Cosmic Society. The album was designed to tell a story, like a collage of emotional and musical moments in his life. It was followed by a signing to Diynamic in 2019 with ‘Frozen’ which dabbled in organic beats and hypnotizing vocals, in true Blindsmyth style. His sound has been said to resonate with DJ Koze, Moderat, Bonobo, Burial and Four Tet, however, always remains to be niche.
He first appeared on Connaisseur Recordings in 2020, with his single “Gryllidae’, a quintessential summer track. He followed this with his noteworthy remix for Kollektiv Turmstrasse’s 10th Anniversary release ‘Rebellion der Tr umer’ for their track ‘Was Bleibt’ showcasing his capabilities in the studio. This remix was no doubt a taste for what was to come with his 2nd album ‘All That Fiberglass’ in February 2022.
With a strong sway toward live organic sounds, ‘All That Fiberglass’ has a warm analogue feel. A lot of the album was created with field recordings, his self-built instruments and hardware along with the manipulation of his own voice. Its concept? Social criticism on the challenges an artist has nowadays with the digital world. The duties, but also the distractions.
Blindsmyth has managed to create a visceral feeling which is ingrained into every track: a figurative living, breathing audio organism that goes beyond the studio, and into the tangible. Opening with the melancholy of ‘Transhuman’ lush emotional tones set the scene perfectly and is one of many softer moments that allow the album to breathe. The single releases from the album showcase Blindsmyth’s up-tempo side experimenting with ‘Remember The Days’ which benefits from clever breakbeat percussion layers and a strong lyrical content. Keys melt into the words for cosy warm up vibes, and the listener is reminded of a sound that dominated clubland in the late ‘90s, becoming an inspirational genre for many young producers.
The midsection of the album is an audio ocean of deep emotion from the wistfulness of ‘A Musical Hug’ through the edgy Burial-esque Garage beats of ‘Connection Error’ towards the oriental ambience of ‘Emotion Per Byte’, everything flows naturally.
The second single due to be released just before Christmas is ‘Hack Into Your Soul’.

Its up-tempo Afro feel neatly juxtaposes those deeper moments with warm key and vocals. A secret weapon for the early morning floors that has a strong emotional content and bags of personality. Keeping the energy high on the album is ‘Delete Your Cloud’, which takes a powerful tribal path with intricate drum programming before the penultimate cut, ‘Digital Choral’ acts as analogue cleanser, before the finale ‘ berfahrt’ which gloriously plays out in widescreen technicolour.
The final single and title track ‘All That Fiberglass’ acts as the most dancefloor-focused cut on the album. Icy keys and vocoder vocals give an edgy and energetic peak time sound, a highlight of his recent live shows. The full vocal also showcases Blindsmyth’s song writing abilities and his development as an artist.
‘All That Fiberglass’ is released on the 18th February 2022 via Connaisseur Recordings.

Sabo’s record label, Sol Selectas presents an organic house EP with Beleric influence by German Brigante.

German Brigante is back on Sol Selectas with his third EP for the label, and it’s a four-track release that blends flamenco influences with majestic synths and flowing percussion.

Based in Spain, German Brigante has been releasing electronic music for over a decade, and his sound has evolved throughout the course of his career. His classic releases have been on labels such as Get Physical, but in recent times he has featured melodic tracks on imprints such as Monaberry and Bar 25. German Brigante also heads up his own respected record label called Manitox.

Following years of DJ experience where German Brigante has travelled the world to play gigs everywhere from Australia to America, he is able to translate his innate knowledge of what works on a dancefloor into the invigorating sound of his music productions.

“Acido Azul” opens the release with an old-school acid house bassline, which is overlayered with bubbling synths and uplifting Spanish vocals that create an enchanting vibe. The upbeat percussion rhythms and subtle bursts of flamenco guitar add to its feel-good vibe.

“Açai” has a thickset bassline that lays a foundation for a finger-picked flamenco guitar and a fluttering flute that adds to the track’s sun-drenched sound.

“Será el Flamenco” has a deep bassline and emotive Spanish vocals that give the track an epic sound that’s augmented by its powerful melodies and samba-style percussion.

“Inquietud” closes out the release with its downtempo groove and acid bassline. Sweeping strings and sensual vocals combine with a mesmerising flute and alluring guitar that adds to the track’s seductive sound.

Rex The Dog has truly been Kompakt’s best friend since his debut “Prototype" came out in 2004. This London based producer’s signature sound channels the best of EBM, Nu Groove and solid state Rave Techno.

His 8 EP contribution to Kompakt over that time has become an integral part of the label’s story and his expansive modular synth live show is a unique experience in its own right.

We recently re-released Rex The Dog’s core back catalogue and the thought came to us – why not have a few of his favourite producers remix their favourite singles? The results come as “Versions” – a collection of 3 remixes from a varied crew of producers.

Krystal Klear is a staple of the Running Back family and runs his own Cold Tonic imprint. He picks “Vortex” and though sticks to the original melody, he contorts the dimension of the single into intergalactical levels of hi-nrg inducing techno.

Bawrut’s releases on Ransom Note speak volumes of his immense talent and he picks the classic “Sicko" to great effect. He conjures an endless intro – one of those build ups that make us miss the crowds of yesteryear ever so dearly.

Finally, the Austrian starlet Wolfram digs deep and goes for “Circulate” – a track that Kompakt never even released. Wolfram shamelessly takes the essence of Trance and New Wave to translate the original into a piece of pure dance floor glory for the modern age.
