Over the past few months, Critical has had the privilege to showcase its sound to listeners all over the globe via BBC Radio 1. For our third release we're very proud to announce our biggest signing to date in the form of one of the West Country's best exports (other than cheese and cider) Mystic State, alongside frequent collaborator and friend, Elias.

The Shanty EP is a stripped back journey though the deep end of D&B, rendolent in lush soundscaping and literally dripping in vibes.

Shanty, the title track, is a thing of beauty. Reminiscent of producers like Four Tet or Gold Panda, it pushes the boundaries of the genre with a deep melancholy.

The remix is Shanty turned up to 11. It has all the depth and meaning of the original, but this time it's built for the dancefloor. Already receiving support from none other than Skeptical, it's a thinking DJs weapon.

Sunday Ones is just that, it's a relaxed halfstepper made for those tender little moments. Patient and deep in equal measure, it's the true definition of a healing sound.

Raindance is Sunday Ones without the calm temprament. Another half step track, Raindance is a brooding, aggressive track that evolves throughout, getting weightier each time.

For our 21st guest mix we have the great pleasure of welcoming the head honchoes of Lost Recordings - Rafiki & Draize. These guys have been putting in a serious amount of effort over the last few years, committing their time to producing some very wicked beats while also running an exciting and fresh underground label. Their dedication to the craft has lead them to build a portfolio of incredible artists, an effort which has most recently cumulated into Lost Recording’s brilliant new LP - Particles. A little from them:

"The concept of Lost Recordings came about over the course of a few long, late night, journeys back from Origin Radio. We had been mixing and making beats together for a little while by this point and felt like we wanted our own output for our music as we felt it was easy to become 'Lost' in the ever expanding sea of digi labels and bedroom producers.
It's now starting to come up to 4 years since our first release and we're pretty happy with the way things have progressed as this started out as more of a hobby than a serious venture. In this mix you'll hear a selection of tracks we're currently feeling, a couple of forthcoming bits of the label and some tracks we've been working on ourselves. We've got a wicked EP from DOt. coming out late August and a lot more lined up for the rest of the year, as well as stacks of weird half time music coming out on our new series Lost: Transmissions."

In 2017, Command Strange is one of Drum and Bass’ most exciting, unique artists. Now based in Russia, St Petersburg, the producer also known as Alexey Fuifanov, has found himself on some of the scene’s most important labels; from Metalheadz, Good Looking Recordings and Hospital - all the way to the mighty V Recordings where he is now signed exclusively. And the reason? Simply put, Command Strange is one of the most versatile producers we have today.

Whatever the label, Command Strange seems to produce banger after banger, fusing his classic jungle, jump-up and soul inspirations into a musical and original whole. Now 7 years deep into his craft, the Command Strange name has become a byword for guaranteed vibes and musicality.

So where did it begin? After trying his hand at jungle from the age of 7, it wasn’t long before a 16 year old Alexey had attracted the attention of the scene’s most influential tastemakers, with everyone from LTJ Bukem and DJ Marky to Friction, London Elektricity and JJ Frost giving the young producer the thumbs up.

Since then, Command Strange has gone from strength to strength - and that’s one of the reasons why he’s often in the studio with AI. The skillful partnership has proved to be like alchemy, with the guys releasing the huge vocal number ‘Won’t Say Goodbye’ featuring Mc Tali and solo single ‘Brand New Style’ featuring MC Fats on V Recordings - as well as the massive, rolling single with ‘Mad One’ and ‘Broken Grounds’ ft. Jamakabi on Goldie’s Metalheadz label.

In 2016, Command Strange signs to V Recordings, and it represents the ultimate fit for the Russian producer. Still one of the most respected labels in the game, V Recordings remains at the forefront of Drum & Bass, while staying true to its junglist beginnings - so it’s the perfect place for the all-encompassing style of Command Strange.
