We are beyond proud to host Bull Horris as the 11th contributor to Sounds of SMUT! Horris is a Dublin-based DJ and artist who has quickly built a name for himself since picking up some 12”s just as the pandemic started. Initially finessing his craft at his infamous pride parties held throughout lockdowns, Bull has firmly emerged as one of the hottest names (and faces!) around. He’s currently a resident DJ of Dublin-based queer night Strawberries, as well as host of ‘O Chroi’ on Dublin Digital Radio. 

More recently, Bull has caught the attention of promoters further afield, appearing on lineups for Adonis in London and Gloria at Macadam in Nantes this past month. He is also co-founder of Dublin’s freshest queer night Tender, alongside Andrew, James & Mercorn (who featured alongside Bull as ‘DJ Garden Party’ as the first mix in our series), injecting a much needed shot of variety and vitality to Dublin’s nightscape. 

Bull has been a long time friend and collaborator with the press since its inception, and it feels so apt to be able to share this mix a year later since he played our launch party. A carefully curated selection of playful tracks, combined with powerful vocals and dynamic, trance-y drums makes this one of our most energising mixes to date - soundtracking our departure from hibernation from the cold winter. Big luvvvv to Bill for putting this together!

In 2023, we're refreshing our Critics' Roundtable format, inviting RA's in-house staff writers and industry specialists to reflect on the releases that resonated with them, as well as the trends and news that's circulating around the music sphere. March's roundtable features Andrew Ryce and Kiana Mickles. 

In addition to discussing the much-anticipated EPs and albums that they've enjoyed—Caroline Polachek, Nene H, Fadi Mohem and more—the duo also raise important questions about the contemporary club music landscape: how should we consider an artist's core audience, especially when their music taps into an uncharted trend? What is the strategy behind releasing multiple albums at once, like Skrillex's recent double LP? What can we make of the new pop-electronic crossover, and what are the deeper implications of mainstream musicians appropriating underground tropes and themes?
