Konedawg - All Sets

KoneCast - Electronic Music Podcast

Konedawg (Josh Koen) is an Australian DJ and aspiring Producer based in Sydney. His funk and progressive-rock roots broadened significantly after discovering psychedelic dance music through Australia's burgeoning Bush Doof scene. A regular at East Coast festivals including Vyoma, Lovefest, Unity and Burning Seed, Konedawg has also thrown renegade sets at some of Australia's biggest parties including Earth Frequency, Dragon Dreaming, Rainbow Serpent and Rabbits Eat Lettuce. He and his partner Kat also run their own club night; 'Juicy', in Sydney's Inner West.

Konedawg was immediately drawn to the Digital Diamonds sound. The balance of groove, tight production and psychedelic elements have served to inspire his DJing and production alike. This set captures some of his favourite Digital Diamonds releases, both new and old, coupled with a blend of other invigorating tunes from like-minded artists and labels.

I spent some time in Sydney again after traveling south from Glow Fest. I was hungry for more DJing after open decks at Cabin Fever and closing the night for the Soul Shack takeover @ Kalyx, so I booked it to Maroubra and dropped in with some Deep House that I've been vibing a lot lately. This recording rounded out a nourishing long weekend. I've been challenged by a couple of physiological and emotional trials this last little while, and the few days in Sydney spent diving deep into special music with exceptional humans really soothed my soul.

This set was an absolute delight. I decided to let my hair down after my Sunset Island set earlier in the afternoon, and dove in on a carefully considered selection of a few of my favourite altered state inducing treats. I was chilling in flowing chats when a couple of friends popped by, one after the other, to share that Carl, Paul and a posse of drummers were throwing down in the Music Medicine Magic space and that they might be looking for a DJ to join them with some groovy beats. At first I wasn't sure if I was present enough to contribute, but as I wandered over the vibe was great and I felt the flow kicking in.

Huge thanks to everyone for co-creating the awesome high vibes that ensued! Big love too to Ned and the Solaris Crew for coming and smashing it out of the ball park with some amazing back to back high energy sets straight after. Such a pleasure to dance my ass off four nights running.

Where to begin. 

Basscamp was absolutely sensational. Such an extraordinary balance of work, play, passion and love. I've never seen a dancefloor quite as cut up as the one in front of our glorious Frog God! 

The lineup AND the community were absolutely star studded. Everyone worked hard to be there, ESPECIALLY the incredible crew, who were on site weeks in advance busting their asses to bring the magic (you are all absolutely incredible).

The valley drank up the intermittent rain, leaving much of the space inundated with mud. I came to realise there were many things I had been taking for granted after a fortuitous run of fair weather doofing- leaving my inventory wherever I please without fear of it getting waterlogged, flowing in and out of spaces without worrying about mud, not having to plan chillspace/tent positions to accommodate potential flooding... 

But for all of the duress the weather brought, there was a greater counter energy brought by every single member of the community, who together rose to the challenge of not just surviving, but THRIVING out there! So much compassion, ingenuity and playfulness. 

The amount of positive and authentic vibe flowing throughout every inch of the space was absolutely next level. My cup is full.

This is my set from Saturday Dawn. I had originally planned to keep the entire set in the world of deep, hypnotic meditative bass, but when a whole bunch of friends (new and old) came out to play (at 6am no less!) I had to surrender to where the energy took me.

Words can't describe just how grateful I am for the extraordinarily special community of musicians, artists, performers, vendors, culinary experts, engineers and all 'round legends that came together for to co-create an unforgettable New Years at The Kibbutz. Each time I visit the Art Valley Land, I'm blown away by how much fun and flow I see and experience. I'm honored to be a part of this extended festival family. Thank you all for your authenticity, kindness and presence. 

The Kibbutz featured some of the most high vibe moments I've had the pleasure of experiencing at a festival. It also served up another profoundly humbling yet insightful psychedelic journey.

To say I'm chuffed to get to be a part of this great unfolding is an understatement. I'm so glad to be here.

What can I say. Dune 2069 was an absolutely extraordinary party. I'm so stoked that so many of the gatherings on my calendar are jam packed full of my favourite people, but Dune took that tradition to a whole other level, with every single one of the collaborators being either dear friends and/or inspirational community members.

Perhaps most extraordinary was the fact this was our exquisite host's FIRST TIME running a festival! The space exuded smooth, high vibes the entire week. I left, sad to go, but grateful for the abundant nourishment and inspiration.

Getting to drop in to help build the festival the week leading up to launch was a privilege and a pleasure. I'm honored to have been a part of the build team AND to have helped warm up the amazing, star studded stage.

Thank you Juliette and Yoeri. Love you both and the magic you weave. Cheers for bringing us all together.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to include my B2B session with Francesco that immediately followed this set. I tried to salvage that part of the set but wasn't able to get the gain staging right. Cheers for the spontaneous collaborative takeover Brother! Also big love to Steve and Emi for once again bringing the purring MMM rig. I'm always honored to play on this system.

Art Valley 2023 - Konedawg's Saturday Morning Sesh

Art Valley has, in no time at all, shot straight to the top of my list of favourite festivals. The space, lineup, community, decor and sheer stoke are all exemplary. While there are definite movers and shakers that make a chunk of the magic happen, it really feels like every single person in the space came together to cultivate the flow and love and that made it so special.

I've been high on life ever since Art Valley, and it seems everyone I speak to about this party agrees. It's an honour and a privilege to be a part of this community and to be invited to play.

Thank you so much to everyone that came out to my set on Saturday morning. I'm so excited for the high vibes everyone brought, especially after everyone also stayed up late to catch Maxi close the stage on Friday evening/Saturday morning. 

Big love to The Professor and Doppel; stoked to be nestled in between you both on Saturday's flow.

Life has been busy this last little window of time. I continue striving to strike a balance between work and play, and am grateful for the lessons and growth that come from the journey, and for the incredible amount of love and support I receive from all of my beautiful connections. 

I'm feeling especially excited for a couple of special upcoming gigs, not least of all Dragon Dreaming, one of my all time favourite gatherings, stacked this year with so much talent including so many of my favourite beings. 

I unwittingly overwrote my USB recently, losing not just a couple of recordings from recent sets but also the tracklist history. This has left me reluctant to upload recreations of those sets. This weekend I've decided instead to record another mix for my KONECAST series, the first in a year.

This KONECAST recording is reminiscent of the vibe from the first half of my set at LEVITATE (minus the dollop of groovy tech house and 140+bpm techno at the end, which will likely be featured in upcoming KONELIVE and KONECAST sets).

Hey Fams! I'm stoked to be sharing my Friday afternoon Air Stage Set from Dragon Dreaming 2023.

Being invited to share some tunes in an official capacity at Dragon was a real dream come true. Dragon has been an integral part of my doofing/festival community journey for close to 10 years, and I truly adore this festival and its extraordinary clique of phenomenal beings. Getting to groove on down with so many of you on Friday was fucking awesome! Count me in again some time.

Hey Fams,

Here's my Saturday Midday set from Zenith Gathering Nov 2023!

I went into this weekend pretty knackered and hadn't taken the time to envision what sort of experience I'd like to have. Zenith wasn't without its challenges, but the extraordinary efforts of many of the core movers and shakers in the community came together to pull off some awesome stuff. Mad props to James for bringing us artists together, Jemima for looking after us, Steph for managing the Vortex stage like a boss, everyone in engineering (lights and sounds were top notch!) and all the wicked DJs, producers, performers and friends I got to hang out with. It was really nice to let my hair down a little on the Saturday after my set and to catch so many wicked musos killin' it as usual.

Flubbed the first mix after I went to use my cues and discovered quantise was off that's what I get for forgetting to do my pre-flight checks of the gear). Have re-recorded it a little tidier.

Some of my Sydney favs (Niki, Vivaek, Ash and Ryan) and I made our way up to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for Resonant Frequency Winter Edition. I wasn't initially booked to play, but Jake put me in touch with Damien (DrBOb) who was curating the Art Realm and was keen to have some chill groovy tunes throughout the festival. Cheers for the opportunity Damien and crew- stoked to meet you all and excited for the next one!

Niki and I smashed out 2400km's there and back in just a couple of days. A big mission, but well worth the adventure. The festival was unreal. Phenomenal production, amazing community and thoroughly kick-ass music throughout.

Thank you to everyone for making this weekend so spesh, as well as for the opportunity to play the big rig on Friday afternoon after a last minute timetable change!

Resonant Frequency Winter Edition 2024 - Downtempo/Funk @ Art Realm Friday

Stoked to have made the trip back to gorgeous Waves Campground once more for this years GlowFest. I always come away from GlowFest feeling so rejuvenated and inspired. The workshops and performances are freakin' awesome. I adore the balance of relaxation and invigoration. The space and the community are next level.

Along with helping manage sound, I also had loads of time on the decks. This set comprises of some selections from the Saturday session.

In the times where myself or Dylan weren't DJing, I loaded up some of my fav sets from the last little while. A big thank you to Vibase, Emmotica and Whompus for the use of their sets in these windows; from stomp to chillin' you all kick ass and myself and the GlowFest community love your work!

Huge thanks also to Soph, Becky, Karim, Dylan and Niki who made the work-side of the weekend a breeze. Love yas all lots!

So psyched for Dragon in just a handful of weeks. Can't wait to see a bunch of you there.

Hey Fams,

I'm so excited to be sharing my set from Sunday evening's takeover of the Freerange Water (Market) Stage at Dragon Dreaming 2024.

Where to even begin. The amount of tremendous experiences and stories coming out of Dragon (both my own and those of the community) is unparalleled. This Gathering has shaped me as a person more than any other. This year marks my 10th Dragon (had to check my ticket receipts! :D) and my second time being invited to play in an official capacity. Without sounding like a broken record, it was an absolute fuckin' pleasure and honor to play. 

HUGE thanks to the Dragon Dreaming Team, Freerange for having me play your wicked stage, Mikey Hearson for the awesome shots, Dane Alexander for the video capture, Cam and James for the invitation, my legendary camp crew and of course every single one of you that came out to boogie on down.

I'd love to thank every other fucking amazing DJ and producer who also played this weekend (love yas to bits). Heya Friends,

I was down in Melbourne catching up with Fams and caught a message from Cailan asking if I'd be keen to join the Art Valley Crew for a sesh on the Sunday evening.

I'd already locked in Art Valley; I just knew it was going to be another piece of history in the making (the lineup was so fucking stacked full of world class legends) so to be asked to share some tunes was the absolute icing on the cake.

Time was tight, so I spent just a couple of hours throwing together a bit of a musical story in the little window of time between day two of the India vs Australia Test Cricket Match at the MCG, and the drive from Melbourne to Art Valley via Sydney in Buchy (my iLoad Van) the very next day.

I love how this set came out. I really love these tunes and adore how they come together, flow-wise.

Art Valley NYE 24-25 - Konedawg @ Warm Up Stage (Sunday Night Opener)

Hey Fams!

I deliberated for a while on whether or not to share this one. I prepped a set that I thought would work well in what I imagined for the setting but discovered on the day that the space (while a cool aesthetic) was a bright room sound-wise, and lacked subs. Ultimately not quite the vibe for my more 'big rig doof energy' vision.

On any other day I'd have swapped out my prepped set and have winged it with something else (probably some groovy minimal house). However, the fates had other plans; I was half way through rebuilding my music library at the time and my USBs only had this set and it's accompanying B-Roll (I keep a bunch of similar music on standby for any given set, even if it's prepped, just in case I'd like to start winging it). 

The resulting set was quite eclectic (At least it felt that way on the day)!

However, listening back in the car recently, I kinda like it still. It's a strange story, but a fun one nonetheless. There's a few tunes in here that might not otherwise get to see the light of day in my mix series. So, ultimately I've decided to throw it on the interwebs.

Good times.

I was super under the pump leading up to this one. The opportunity came up to share some tunes at Develop-Mental AND Free Range's "Caged" party in Marrickville. Both were on the Saturday, which kept me busy not just on the day (finishing one set and jumping straight in the car to drive 2.5hrs from the bush to the city and then back again) but also kept my mind fired up in the few days leading up to the weekend while juggling work as well as thoughts around what to play.

To add to the mission, Buchy (my once very trusty Hyundai iLoad van) wouldn't start- just as I'd completely packed her and hopped in to start my weekend. 

It wasn't until Sunday that I finally made some time to sit down for a beat- a much needed breather!

This one is a bit eclectic. I was keen to play some house groovers but after 40 or so minutes I was feeling it wasn't really the set and setting for it, so switched it up a gear and went a bit all over the shop.

I LOVE opportunities to rip through a broad range of bpms. This time's 126BPM to 184BPM was good fun- and RIGHT on the dial, set length-wise!

I met Erik briefly in San Francisco after Burning Man in 2017. He invited me to come check out a 'little gathering' called Rabbits that he and his mates were putting on. I didn't know it at the time, but the little gathering he was referring to was not quite as little as I'd envisioned based on his casual description :D

I ultimately didn't get along to Rabbits for another 2 years, when Kat and I cruised up to Cherrabah Resort for the 2019 edition.

It blew my mind. The production was out of this world! The flow of the party felt sensational. And the community? I'd never seen doofland partying so hard while keeping so cool. I was hooked.

I've been coming back to Rabbits ever since, including sharing a renegade set in 2021.

To be invited to not only play officially, but to open the absolutely phenomenal Waabooz stage - words can't express how stoked I was for the opportunity. It was fucking awesome fun. 

I wasn't sure what to expect given the early time slot, with most punters still arriving and many setting up/chillin' given the big trek from camp to stage. Thank you so much to those who came out and threw down! It means so much to me.

I'd be remiss not to mention that I'm aware of the portions of community who are feeling impacted and hurt by examples of Rabbits' poor communication with several artists (including a couple of close friends). I myself wasn't sure whether I was still going to be able to play. My messages sent via email and socials seeking clarification of certain details received no response. The lack of response is one thing, but the curt and insensitive eventual responses that some friends received definitely added to the hurt.

I appreciate the organisers were under tremendous pressure for lots of reasons, but be that as it may I hope they're able to meet some of the community disappointment with humility and sensitivity, and an intention to improve upon communication moving forwards.

Honourable mentions to a couple of absolute legends; Ziggy, Zad, Maxi, Jemma, everyone involved in the production, stage and lighting (holy fuck it was absolutely next level!) and everyone I partied with throughout the party. Rabbits 2025 is definitely one for the history books.

Massive thank you to every single one of you for making Art Valley 2025 Winter Edition another absolutely sensational event. 

I love this party and its community so much. Even Australia's relatively mild winters can be hard yakka, but y'all stepped up to co-create some gosh darn magic. 

The whole weekend felt like such a 'coming home'! The already top notch organisation and infrastructure felt more polished than ever, and crowd and performers alike came together with such love and creativity that no amount of cold could crush the high vibes.

Thank you so much once again to Gil and the whole crew for having us, and special thanks for Cailan for the invitation back to perform, and the trust to deliver something tidy and tasty between two of my favourite artists in the biz- Double Dip and Aaron King.

Special mention to the 'lights out' moment on Sunday night during Porat that led to one of the coolest spontaneous moonlight madness moments I've felt since Oregon Eclipse Gathering back in 2017.

'Sup Beautiful Fams,

A Massive thank you to RPG Crew for inviting me to close out Forest Life Episode 1 on Sunday afternoon. I had such a wicked time! The production and attention to detail were next level. I could really feel the attention given to keeping everyone feeling good. With the amazing food, fires and infrastructure I've never been warmer in frosty -5 degree weather. Mad props to every single person involved - you're all absolute legends.

I ran into a couple of technical hiccups and didn't have a salvageable recording of my set. I was keen to capture a memory of the day as well as capture a bit of the vibes of some of my recent Dua Anahata set, so I've re-recorded this set with a couple of changes to release as a Konecast.

This set is a mostly accurate recreation of my Forest Life Set with the setlist retrieved from my Rekordbox history. I've tidied up the transitions a bit (my on the day last minute beatmatching without cues had some room for improvement :D ). I've also swapped out 5-6 tunes with a couple from my Dua Anahata set. Hope you dig!

Dragon Dreaming 2025 catalysed within me a whole new level of stoke for this big beautiful crazy universe we live in.

Marking my 19th year of doofing and my 11th Dragon, this was easily the best programmed, tightest production and most high vibes gathering I've ever witnessed. To say this party absolutely fucks is an understatement.

Serendipity continues to be the theme of my recent weeks, with magic moments strewn throughout the entire weekend. Partying this hard has never felt so good!

Every. Single. Set and performance I witnessed this weekend (and I saw a LOT) kicked monumental amounts of sexy ass. I have so much Love for everyone in this community.

Thank you all for coming out on Sunday evening to groove on down to some of my current fav sensuous house music. It was an absolute honour to play between Da Heebie Jeebies and Lucidity, who both completely killed it.
