Vanessa Daou - Love Is War (Severino & Terry Farley Dub Is War Mix)

Having appeared on several of our compilations over the years, Stan Kolev marks his full Bonzai Progressive debut with the superb three tracker Forsaken EP. Since 2005 this guy has been dishing out top quality cuts on many top labels. Everything from progressive house, deep house and tech house has been covered. In recent times he has shown up on our own compilations including Club Traxx - Progressive House 13, 15 and 16. No doubt we'll be seeing more from this guy in the future.

Forsaken is up first and comes in two flavours, the Original Mix and the Instrumental. Both offer up a solid slice of techno with the Instrumental made available or those that want to lose the sparse vocals. Right from the off you find yourself locked into a powerful techno groove that is made up of thumping kicks, bright hats and a superb deep and lush bassline that drives the groove beautifully. In the background a series of almost industrialised clangy FX set the tone and deliver a tough edge to the sound. The sinister vocal adds cool texture to the sound and works perfectly against the backdrop of a stunning techno groove. Simply awesome.

Mauve intros with a cool stuttering bass sound alongside a subdued kick drum with crisp hats and sharp claps riding alongside. Percussive layers start to build and a solid rhythm ensues as the kick drum gets beefed up into a powerful pounding punch. Cool FX fill in the spaces and create a colourful multi layered sound with a super tight arrangement. Sweeping vocal sounds make their presence know from time to time as we are drawn deeper into the groove. A somewhat minimalist approach to progressive that will most definitely beef up any set, no doubt.

Forsaken EP

DJ and producer Kush debuts on Bonzai Progressive with the wonderful two tracker entitled Substance Abuse. Kush was interested and passionate about music since his early childhood. He started to learn the basics of music using a keyboard at the age of 5. Growing up, he discovered the possibility of making music using computers and grabbed the opportunity to develop his skills and talents to produce electronic music. He was also part of a local rock band as a keyboardist. He is into many different genres of music, Techno, Tech-House, Minimal, Deep House, Jazz, Rock and Metal, to name a few. His electronic music inspirations and selections are rooted from groovy beats, heavy bass lines, emotive chords, dark synths, percussive, melodic and old school soundscapes. The perfect recipe for some tasty tracks no doubt, great to have him on board at Bonzai Progressive.

Substance Abuse intros with a superb punchy kick drum that pounds out a solid beat and is joined soon after by a deep reverberating bassline that delivers a deep warm groove. Various pads swirl overhead as one synths create a patchwork of colours that blend together beautifully. The main synth reveals a cool melody that mesmerizes all the throughout the track as we get lost in its hypnotic groove. A proper slice of progressive house that will definitely get any crowd moving.

Drive sets off with a wonderful punchy kick drum and crispy hat combi as tech house fuelled sounds fade up from the depths. A playful bassline enters the fray and brings a powerfully deep groove that digs deep into your soul. Percussive layers build up and we are soon locked in a superb rhythmic groove that will force you to move. A collection of synths and FX create a beautifully textured sound complete with vocals that are scattered throughout. You get a hint of progressive in the sound that adds great depth and tones making this a pretty cool hybrid track that will slot in nicely in any set.

Substance Abuse

Stan Kolev returns to Bonzai Progressive with the fantastic All Along EP. Stan enjoyed great support on his BP debut - Forsaken EP- back in April 2016, prior to this he had appeared on several compilations from Bonzai. We're delighted he's back for another run and hope to see much more in the future.

All Along epitomises the summer sound with its upbeat drums and shuffling hats alongside rising arp melodies and cool FX. The icing on the cake though is that monster bass drone that captures the essence of the groove beautifully while a cool mixture of female and male vocals create a diva like vibe. The track just oozes dance appeal and no doubt the floors are gonna love this one. 

Keep On Rising comes in two flavours - Original and Dub. Both tracks dish out the same level of tech with the original delivering a brilliant retro vocal that will be instantly recognisable to many. Chunky kicks and bright crispy hats make up a solid rhythm for the track to flow while cool synths litter the sound. A powerful probing bassline is the big player here though as it dominates the groove. The vocal also stands out and will give you something to sing along to while getting your groove on. A wonderfully crafted slice that is a definite must have track in your arsenal. The equally inviting Dub mix is for those who want to lose the vocal and focus on the purer side of the track.

Ever in search of an even-better environment to make music in, Joris Voorn has been hard at work this year constructing a new studio space near his home in Amsterdam. Having only very recently been completed, Joris immediately went to add the finishing touches on his next single in his new natural habitat. 'Genova' is the result, and its been well worth the wait.

A nagging techy beat with a funky undertone drives this infectious track, with monotone synth rhythms subtly rising from the depths to create tense pressure. Moments of teasing intensity increase the drama, before a beautiful arpeggiated melody unfolds and with it brings a sorrowful chord progression. The bass follows in tandem as we head towards a sparse breakdown which strips things down to the bare minimum. A lengthy snare build recalls classic trance as the synths pulse and swell, with a hooky vocal snippet announcing the drop. After some more of that juicy groove, an extended ambient outro provides an atmospheric, heavenly ending.

'Genova' has been heavily road-tested by Joris, featuring in all his sets over the summer and it has received huge reactions whenever played. It seems like his new studio has added a touch of magic to it, and we can all look forward to much more material coming out of it very soon indeed.
