The 7 Planets of TRAPPIST-1 Have Surprisingly Similar Properties

Astronomers are getting very good at hunting for exoplanets with a little help from powerful ground and space-based telescopes. We’re no longer finding one planet here and there — we’re discovering entire solar systems. TRAPPIST-1 has been of particular interest with its system of seven planets, discovered in 2016 and 2017. A new study has confirmed that all these planets are small and rocky like Earth, and they’re all surprisingly similar to each other. 

The TRAPPIST-1 system was originally spotted using the TRAPPIST telescope in Chile. At the time, astronomers believed all the planets would turn out to be rocky, and several are in the habitable zone of the star. TRAPPIST-1 is a red dwarf, so those potentially habitable planets are all very close with solar years measured in Earth days. All seven exoplanets are closer to TRAPPIST-1 than Mercury is to our sun. 

The ream led by Erik Agol at the University of Washington was able to estimate the masses of all the planets by observing them as they transited in front of the star. Combined with orbital timing, the scientists have a better handle on both the mass and diameter of the exoplanets. That means we can also find the mass — and here’s where things get weird. They are all eight percent less dense than they would be if they had the same composition as Earth.

The TRAPPIST-1 Habitable Zone
The TRAPPIST-1 system contains a total of seven planets, all around the size of Earth.Three of them -- TRAPPIST-1e, f and g -- dwell in their stars so-called habitable zone. The habitable zone, or Goldilocks zone, is a band around every star (shown here in green) where astronomers have calculated that temperatures are just right -- not too hot, not too cold -- for liquid water to pool on the surface of an Earth-like world.

While TRAPPIST-1b, c and d are too close to be in the systems likely habitable zone, and TRAPPIST-1h is too far away, the planets discoverers say more optimistic scenarios could allow any or all of the planets to harbor liquid water. In particular, the strikingly small orbits of these worlds make it likely that most, if not all of them, perpetually show the same face to their star, the way our moon always shows the same face to the Earth. This would result in an extreme range of temperatures from the day to night sides, allowing for situations not factored into the traditionalhabitable zonedefinition. The illustrations shown for the various planets depict a range of possible scenarios of what they could look like.

The system has been revealed through observations from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the ground-based TRAPPIST (TRAnsiting Planets and PlanetesImals Small Telescope) telescope, as well as other ground-based observatories. The system was named for the TRAPPIST telescope.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, manages the Spitzer Space Telescope mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington. Science operations are conducted at the Spitzer Science Center at Caltech in Pasadena. Spacecraft operations are based at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Littleton, Colorado. Data are archived at the Infrared Science Archive housed at Caltech/IPAC. Caltech manages JPL for NASA.

Always attracted by world music mixed with urban beats, he started releasing his original productions with a unique psychedelic/tribal twist mixed with slow techno, acid, and acoustic sampling techniques.
¨Botanique¨ is a concept album dedicated to the wonderful world of plants, which are the first-ever travelers on planet Earth. Every species with its own surviving strategy and its peculiarities can teach us so much like: how to survive our own destruction, how to cooperate with other humans and how to relate with the environment that surrounds us.  
We would like to dedicate this album to the work of Italian botanist Stefano Mancuso and give it as a gift to all the people who enjoy these deep vibes, enjoy!

Symbiosis can be obligatory, which means that one or more of the symbiosis depend on each other for survival, or facultative (optional), when they can generally live independently.

Symbiosis is also classified by physical attachment. When symbionts form a single body it is called conjunctive symbiosis, while all other arrangements are called disjunctive symbiosis.

 When one organism lives on the surface of another, such as head lice on humans, it is called ectosymbiosis; when one partner lives inside the tissues of another, such as Symbiodinium within coral, it is termed endosymbiosis.

Zulu Project's music is an electronic cultural blend inspired by his two countries of origin: France and Guinea. He is part of the reshaping and evolution of the underground Parisian electronic scene with 'Les ateliers Wonder' that he manages with a partner.
His relentless traveling mind takes him on a trip around the globe for 2 years during which he is part of different music festivals in India, Mexico and Brazil with the Voodoohop Collective. His EP 'Ukuwela' is produced during this world tour and will be available with 'Ohxala record' and will be part of the 'Mozaique' mix from the 'Curuba' label.

'Ukuwela' tells the story of a 2-year trip around the world with a mission: Erasing borders to look for fragments of sounds, dusty landscape and colors to listen to. 'Only one who wanders finds new paths'. 'Ukuwela' means 'to go across' in Zulu and it tells the story of this journey across the globe.
