Canadian multi-instrumentalist Jex Opolis lays out a jubilant, latin house take on Ali X and Mafara's Mi Dios Mi Amor.

Be it through cassettes in the 90s, as part of Electro duo DVAS in the 00's, through hardware performance or through remixing the likes of Peggy Gou and Lenny Kraviz for XL in 2023 - Jex has stuck to his guns and expressed himself in singular fashion. His sound has remained celebratory, vibrant and floor focused and his revision of Mi Dios Mi Amor is right in line with his canon.

A tight, bossy groove kicks things off as a deep-set organ rebounds off ecstasy drenched stabs and a firm, bouncing kick drum. Vocals slap in, percussion keeps hustling and while a classy string is gently draped in overhead. A playful mid-section opens out allowing space for warped, fanged bass licks and some chorus vocals.

Feverish sequencing keeps the energy right up as short breakdowns kick back quick right until the finals bars. A radio edit and a dub provide functional variety to an already potent recording that harnesses all of the picante verve of the original.
