Scuffed Recordings launch their new singles series Scuffed Bits with a double-sided single from Scuffed veteran @95bones and label co-founder @wagerdj.

Written at the beginning of 2020 just before the pandemic, the two mixes of ‘Purple Hilt’ feature the same sparkling melodies and glitchy acid line, but the two producers offer a distinct approach on each mix by paying homage to different genres that have influenced their work.

Up first is the ‘East London Aerial’ Mix, which is tied together by the skippy hats and rapid-fire percussion of grime. On the flip side is the ‘1315 Broadway’ Mix, a more straightforward, club-focussed version of the track with nods to classic electro and techno.

‘Purple Hilt’ will be released as the first single on Scuffed Bits on 14th January 2022.

Sister Zo brings her debut EP to Scuffed Recordings with four tracks of heavy, percussive club music.

Midwesterner Sister Zo has been building a name for herself in recent years as a co-founder of Kansas City’s UN/TUCK label, using her DJ sets and productions as a means of channelling her experiences as a queer trans woman growing up in the North American Bible belt.

Having cut her teeth in Kansas City’s vibrant underground scene, Zo has entered 2022 with a stacked DJ schedule at venues across the US, and making her mark on an international level with an appearance on Lobster Theremin’s PLUR compilation, and recent mixes on platforms like Daisychain and Spontaneous Affinity.

As one of the alumni of the Scuffed Recordings Artist Development Scheme, Sister Zo honed her production skills throughout 2021 and the result is the Screw Cheek EP – featuring four moody, bass-heavy tracks.

From the tension-building title track, to the rolling percussion of ‘Don’t Test Me’, to the broken beats of ‘Fire’, and eerie atmospherics of ‘Inhale’, Zo exhibits intricate sound design and carefully-considered production throughout the EP, marking her as a producer to watch in 2022 and beyond.

Sister Zo’s Screw Cheek EP will be released on all digital platforms on 25th February 2022.

"When people ask me what I define my music as I often struggle to give a clear answer. I mainly draw inspiration from spaces in time, locations I've experienced and of course genres of music that I have been surrounded by. This being said, Raw Tools encompasses the grittiness and feel of a 90s Hip Hop record, in the form of what people call "UK Bass Music". I initially wanted to create a project of "DJ Tools". Hard hitting but steady drums that would lure in anyone flicking through a cdj to find the next track to blend. My thoughts were conscious of how this would be perceived on the dance floor. Although some deviation is apparent, this has remained the foundation of the EP."
