The summer was gorgeous this year; we were blessed with a decent amount of sun, which made everything glow with saturated colours and vibrating air. Nature, landscapes and people could reveal their beauty.

I was lucky this summer to celebrate a genuine union of people, music and nature in La Clusaz at Le Champ des Platines of Radio Meuh. The majestic mountains welcomed and embraced us, allowing to enjoy the beautiful day at l’alpage de l’Étale - the pasture covered with a soft carpet of a fresh grass. The lovely people who climbed to dance with us brought so much love. We danced till everything melted in the golden light of sunset.

The recording of my 3-hour-long set brought all the sensations back, and I am again at l’alpage de l’Étale. Thank you for the love and care you gave to us.

The grass in the pasture will grow healthier this year. The cows will be happier, and Reblochon will get even tastier. A bientôt les amis!

Le Champ Des Platines 2023 DJ set

Doctor Flake live Dj set, enregistré le 17 juin 2023 sur l'alpage du Danay à La Clusaz pour l'évènement "Le Champ des Platines".

"Quel plaisir de pouvoir partager ce set dont l’enregistrement avait peut-être été menacé par une coupure d’électricité ! 
Je connaissais la vallée des Confins et la vallée du Bouchet mais n’étais jamais monté entre les deux, en terre bornandine, sur l’alpage du Danay. Un nouveau panorama s'inscrit alors au palmarès des panoramas. Contemplatif à souhait, ce fut le sunset spot ultime de l’été depuis le booth perché quasiment au sommet de l’alpage. Magique. 
Il y a des dates qui vous laissent des souvenirs intacts et impérissables, celle-ci en fait partie. Entre le lieu, la réceptivité crescendo du public, le regain d’énergie avec les soucis techniques, la bienveillance et le professionnalisme de l’organisation, tous les ingrédients étaient réunis pour un moment de communion et de partage sonore de haut vol où chaque morceau joué pouvait être le dernier.
La plupart des titres du set seront identifiés par Shazam alors si vous aimez, surtout n’hésitez pas à les rechercher et à les partager autour de vous. C’est dans cet esprit de partage et de transmission que s’est construit Radiomeuh et c’est dans ce même esprit qu’elle perdurera :)

I had the pleasure of stopping by Dublab in LA to play an hour set and talk to Daddy Differently for a bit on his & Dirty Dave's "things of life" show. Some unreleased new material I recorded in Colombia, an official new edit coming on Hot Casa, and some vinyl I was gifted on my travels through Europe! Enjoy!

A few years back Gouranga asked me to do a DJ mix mapping my personal journey into Brasilian music, which I called my ‘Brasilian Beats Mix’.
I massively enjoyed the opportunity to tell the story of the tracks and artists I had been introduced to on my visits to Brasil. And each track was also a memory of the wonderful people I had encountered, worked and partied with there, who had opened my ears to this new musical world in the first place.

I also hoped that my mix would encourage other people who, like me, were new to the music of Brasil to depart on their own journeys of discovery and, well, it seemed to work! First of all, I was blown away by the strong and positive response to the mix, but also since then I have come across many people on my travels in Asia, Australia, Europe and beyond (and even a few Brasilians) who savoured the mix, enjoyed the music and then looked for more. Bingo! It was a case of job done for me personally, especially as music for me has always been about people sharing their passions together.

I am also glad to say that my journey into Brasil, its wonderful music, culture and people has continued to grow. I just can’t get enough of it! I played again at Mareh festival NYE 2019 up in the glorious setting of Atins, which was a stunning event and then went more recently on a tour of the country in July playing in Sao Paulo several times, Brasilia and Rio.

 

So I am pleased to announce that together with Gouranga (who are always inspiring people to dig deep and do good stuff) we decided that part two of this Brasilian journey was perhaps a good idea. So here it is under the cunningly named title ‘More Brasilian Beats Mix’.

 

I hope you enjoy the new selections and flavours, and I would again like to thank and stress the importance of my new and old Brasilian guides Tahira, Rafael Cancian, JKriv, Outra, Mendel, Millos Kaiser, Trepanado, Jacques Renault, The Patchouli Brothers, Frank Booker, Daniel T, COEO, Kiko Costato and all the others I have encountered on the road and in the record stores.

DICKY TRISCO - More Brasilian Beats Mixtape

It’s difficult to come up with fresh ideas in this strange cabin fever environment we all have right now. Most of the time I take my inspiration and my ideas from the people dancing in front of me. It’s easy that way and exciting. But tonight I had this thought, I remembered something all DJs and dancers know about. I remembered what it is like when you have had a long set or session through the night or day. Or perhaps for a few days at a festival. And then at a certain point you are playing or dancing and everyone who is there wants to be there. This is the place. This is the time. It maybe isn’t the best gig or moment in your career or life. But for that precious period of time it is just you and the people on the dance floor. You are together as one and as a DJ you can do what you want because you are united in the music. This is often a great time to drop the tempo and play the music you love and which has real feeling. I love those moments. I tried to capture them tonight stuck in a studio on my own. To celebrate this new accolade we asked Mr Kirkwood to record something different for our mixtape series...

"i've spent most of my time on my own during Lockdown.
This has pushed me into some deep contemplation at times, and that contemplation has most frequently been about my relationship with music.

If you consider that music is both the way i make my living and also the main way that I project myself to the world, then you'll probably agree it's a pretty natural thing for me to think about.

What I discovered was that I'd become unhappy with a lot of the things I was choosing to do

This revelation made me decide to reapproach what I do with my time, what I give value to, and what I choose to tell people is significant.

The most immediate change is that I now find myself working as an artist in Residence for Sage Gateshead, which is one of the most important Concert Venues in the UK.

Over the next 10 months the Sage is supporting me in making a performance piece which will push me as a music maker and conceptual artist, and which will allow me to explore another thing that I find very important, that is to say the notion of my regional identity and the things that I can do that use my skills and experience to make the region a better place to live.

Further to that I've found the time to work on other less immediately obvious projects which resonate more deeply with me.

I've finished an album with the Vocalist and songwriter "Marske" which will be out before the end of the year, and (despite some crazy curveballs) I'm making headway on my multi-vocalist album project as "Antisocial Alliance".

I'm also committed to launching a not-for-profit organisation very soon which will use the music I've dedicated my life to in a way that helps underprivileged or marginalised people in the North East of England.
The nicest thing I've found about all of this is that it's got me back to simply engaging with music because it pleases me, not because I need to pay the bills or because I feel like I need to use it to climb up some kind of imaginary pecking order.

All of these changes have meant that I get to record mixes like this one. 
Free from anyone else's opinion and for no other reason the fact that I wanted to record it.

I'm not saying it's the end for me as a DJ or House Music producer, as that's something I think is in my bones.
I think I am saying that I'll be doing it a lot more selectively now and that if you ever catch me doing either in future then you can be sure that the only reason I'm doing it is because I completely believe in what it is I'm doing at the time.

It was a great job, but I really needed to go back to doing it for the love instead"
